'Vettai' on for the brothers

A hunt seems to be on for the lead roles in the Hindi version of 'Vettai'. The film will be remade in Hindi by director Lingusamy who knows commercial cinema like the back of his hand.

It was earlier said that Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor will be approached for the lead roles but now grapevine is abuzz that the makers are toying with the idea of approaching Shahrukh Khan and Imran Khan for the remake in Hindi.

The film's story features Madhavan and Arya as brothers - former as a peace-lover while the latter is a ruffian. Now going by the blockbuster status of the Tamil film, UTV wants to remake it for Bollywood with two top stars. Since SRK and Imran have never attempted South remakes, the makers feel that these two will be apt for the script and also their casting will kick off some excitement.

However, Madhavan seems to be keen on doing his role from the original in Hindi as well.

As of now, talks are still going on about the cast, but a remake is for sure on cards.

If Kamal Haasan had his way, superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be the only actor to step into his shoes for the Hindi remake of Gautham Menon's Tamil film Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu.

Shah Rukh is currently in a dilemma as he has to choose between the remakes of two Tamil films - Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu and A.R. Murugadoss's Ramanna.

Both offer the picky King Khan a chance to do something he hasn't done before -- a south Indian remake with parts that he hasn't tried before.

"While Murugadoss's film casts SRK as a social crusader, Menon's film casts him as a cop, a role he has played just once in Shashilal Nair's One 2 Ka 4 and that too a plain-clothed cop. SRK has never got a chance to get into khaki uniform. This, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu will let him do," said a source.

Haasan, who played the role of the cop on the lookout for a serial killer in the original movie Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, has expressed keen interest in Shah Rukh reprising the role in the film's Hindi version.

"Kamalji is extremely fond of Shah Rukh. They go back a long way to the time when 12 years ago Shah Rukh agreed to do Kamalji's Hey Ram free of cost. When director Gautham Menon, who understandably respects Kamalji's opinion, asked the thespian who should play his role in the Hindi remake, Kamalji promptly gave Shah Rukh's name," said a source close to the project.

Menon confirmed his eagerness to cast Shah Rukh and said: "I don't know where these reports of Salman Khan being an option for Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu are coming from. It's Shah Rukh Khan, who is the first and only choice. Kamalji played the part in the Tamil original. So Shah Rukh seems the right candidate for the part."

There is another reason why Salman was eliminated early from the race to play the cop in Menon's film.

Salman has already done the khaki bit several times over.

"Shah Rukh in khaki is a novelty. Salman has been there and done it many times. Shah Rukh is our man for the part," said the source.

Apparently, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu will explore the same dark noire cop-killer space as Aamir Khan's Talaash.

A source close to the project says that the only reason Shah Rukh has not given a final nod to Menon's remake is because he wants to see how Talaash is received by the audiences.

Radhika and her Raadan Mediaworks had taken over the distribution rights of Vishal’s Prabhu Deva directed Vedi for Rs 12 Crore.
Radhika had got Rs 3 Crore out of selling the satellite right of the film and Vishal had given the balance Rs 9 Crore as a cheque payment.

Vijay’s Shankar directed Nanban has been declared a super hit by the trade.
As per trade sources the film has grossed approximately Rs 40 Crore in its first week (Jan 12 to 19). In Tamil Nadu it recorded almost 95 % opening in its first four days, which is extraordinary by any yardstick.

The film opened in nearly 625 screens in Tamil Nadu in its first two days (Jan 12 &13) without any opposition.
Nanban made merry and it helped the film to get the second biggest opening after Enthiran. By Pongal day, the film became steady at the box-office and the word-of-mouth started working to its advantage .
Says Asick Meera of Mariyam Pictures who purchased the TK area: “Nanban is running packed houses in 33 release stations and there is no drop so far. After Enthiran, Nanban is the only film which is drawing repeat audience and is going steady. The collections are on par with Enthiran first week collections and the film has netted Rs 2.75 Crores in its opening week, which is phenomenal by any yardstick.”
Added Sivakumar of Cosmo Village Pictures, the distributor for Coimbatore & Nilgiri area: “We gave Nanban a very big release by opening in 70 screens and has netted an awesome Rs 5.20 Crore in the first week so far and has been drawing unprecedented crowds especially in small towns. What is remarkable is that the film has done excellent business at single screens as well as multiplexes, a feat which only Enthiran has managed in the recent past”
Nanban is also testimony to the fact that Vijay is one of the biggest stars in Tamil films with an assured opening. Shankar is the biggest brand in south cinema and the combo with Vijay worked wonders for the film.
Family audiences took advantage of the long weekend to catch the faithful 3 Idiots remake. Iran has banned actress Golshifteh Farahani from returning home after she posed topless for a French news magazine.
Farahani posed for Madame Le Figaro magazine as a symbolic protest against strictures on women in Iran. The actress posted her picture on her Facebook page too.

“I was told by a Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guide official that Iran does not need any actors or artists and I may offer her artistic services somewhere else,” she was quoted by Britain’s as Telegraph as saying.

Riding on horseback across Veeranam river, Vallavarayan Vandhiya Thevan can steal hearts even now as effortlessly as he did 62 years ago.

The protagonist of Ponniyin Selvan — the epic novel penned by Kalki Krishnamurthy — is perhaps the most popular hero of all novels in Tamil put together, going by sales of the work.
The epic work in five volumes has seen numerous reprints by various publications since it was first published as a serial in Kalki magazine in 1950.
The work is also available online in audio and PDF formats. Yet the latest print edition, with paintings of artist Maniam — who had originally done illustrations for the serial — has become a major hit.
Published by Vikatan group, the latest version has sold over 10,000 copies within two weeks of its publication. “It was released on January 5 and by January 17 over 10,000 copies were sold. The sales include pre-orders made by readers and the sales at the book fair,” says a Vikatan group employee.
In the recently concluded 35th annual book fair, Ponniyin Selvan was among the top three best-sellers alongside Sahitya Akademi winning Kaaval Kottam and Mahatma Gandhi’s Sathiya Sodhanai.
Publishers say any edition of Ponniyin Selvansells as well as the Vikatan’s. “Publishers keep printing Ponniyin Selvan over and over again because it sells. What sets apart Vikatan’s print is perhaps the branding and the packaging.
They have used the original paintings of Maniam which was as sensational as the written word was when Ponniyin Selvan appeared as a serial. I brought the Vikatan edition for the paintings, though I already have a copy of Ponniyin Selvan,” says Sundar Rajan, a reader.

Car- racer Dileep Roger bonds with monitor lizard

Debutant director S. Balan has made a film with a monitor lizard being featured prominently along with India’s No.1 motor car racer Dileep Roger. He makes his debut as an actor in the film titled ‘Udumban’. S. Jagannathan has produced it under the banner of Modern Cinema. It will soon hit the screens.

Like Kamal’s ‘Indian’, Vijayakanth’s Ramana, and ‘Ee’, ‘Udumban’ also deals with issues affecting society. A still photo showing Dileep Roger, who plays the lead role, with the monitor lizard perched on his broad shoulders, has appeared in newspapers. Balan says he showed the creature to the Animal Welfare Board of India and obtained permission to shoot the film with it. He has bought it from a man belonging to Manamadurai who makes a living by catching monitor lizards and selling them. The one that was sold to Balan had been with the man for five years. After a year-long training in stunts and dancing and spending time with hunters, Dileep has adapted to the character of ‘Udumban’. The monitor lizard itself plays a major role along with Dileep. The creature helps in uniting the hero with his ladylove besides saving him from the clutches of his enemies.
The entire film has been shot in the forests of Karuvelamgadu.
Another salient feature is that the film has five songs written by Bharathidasan and two sons by Pattukottai Kalyanasundaram.

Director KS Ravikumar’s Bollywood dreams seems to be shattered, as the proposed project has been shelved. The filmmaker was supposed to remake Tamil blockbuster Saamy, which starred Vikram, in the Bollywood with Sanjay Dutt enacting the role of a cop.

If reports are to be believed, Saamy, which was titled Thanedaar Returns, has been dropped for some reasons. It was said that Prakash Raj would also play a key role in the proposed project and it was also launchpad of ‘Kolaveri di’ composer Anirduh Ravichander in the Bollywood.
A production house source claims that the movie has not been shelved but plans of remaking Saamy has been dropped. It is because there were some copyright issues, which made the movie bosses to shelve it. It also adds that KS Ravikumar will be directing an original film instead of the remake. After getting massive response from the audience for his recently released Nanban, it was a time for the Velayudham star to thank the whole team, who worked for the success of the Tamil film along with him. Well, Vijay organised a party at his seaside villa on the ECR in Chennai.

Jeeva was the first person to leak the news on internet. The fully excited actor wrote, “Had a get together cine success party at Vj anna’s place. Director Shankar, Resul Pookutty, Srikanth, Nanban team and myself had a blast and fun filled time.”
Later, sound engineer Resul Pookutty also tweeted about the party. “Met actor Vijay & Nanban team for dinner yesterday night. All of them are such lovely, down to earth and humble people. No wonder they are such a huge success.”
Meanwhile, Nanban, in a week, has made wonderful collections at the Tamil Box Office. Reports say that the movie is heading towards breaking all the records.

K. Padmaraj, who worked under actor-director Samuthirakani in a few films as assistant director, turns director with a film titled Thalakkonam. The film, to be produced by Thirumalai Sivam on behalf of his banner SJS International, would have the script penned by Padmaraj himself.

Popular male model Jitesh, the newcomer who is debuting as hero, is paired opposite Riya (alias) Nakshatra in the film. Others in the cast Kota Srinivasa Rao, Feroze Khan, ‘Ganja’ Karuppu, Pandu, Shanmugasundaram, Nambiraj, Bala and Abinayasree. Billed as a suspense thriller, the film has music by the duo of Subash-Jawahar and has lyrics penned by lyricist-turned actor Paa Vijay.
The audio of the film was launched some time back at the Abirami Mega Mall in the city. ‘Abirami’ Ramanathan presided over the function and released the audio cassettes and CDs of the film which were accepted by Namitha, the ‘sexy bomb’ who once ruled the roost in Kollywood.
Speaking on the occasion, Namitha said “All films – irrespective of whether they are small-budget films or big-budget films – have only one rout to success, which is to entertain the audience and make them feel satisfactory as they emerge from the cinema halls after watching the film. Success lies in the hands of the viewers; I’m sure the film would court success in a big way and I wish the crew all the success.”

Vijay gives away relief materials ‘Thane’ Victims

Last week, actor Vijay visited the localities and people badly affected by the recent ‘Thane’ storm which hit the coastal belt of Tamil Nadu damaging properties worth crores of rupees in the U.T. of Puducherry. Storms are a rare phenomenon in Tamil Nadu but the change appears to be changing of late.

The State Government’s relief and rehabilitation and disaster management departments are working overtime to ensure that the relief material including food, clothing and shelter provided by the Government are reached to the affected people in Cuddalore. However, there are some who criticize the government for not doing ‘enough’ relief work to mitigate the sufferings of the poor.
Vijay visited Cuddalore recently with the office-bearers of his fans’ club in the U.T. He distributed rice, utensils for domestic use and cement sheets to serve as roof for the houses to be made to thousands of people who were greatly touched by the actor’s gesture. He also announced that he was ready to distribute more relief material when the need arose.
He also undertook a tour of the affected localities and spoke to the people there. All those who received the relief material thanked Vijay and dispersed.

The ad shows Karan, who takes out the test-drive offer and gets down mocking Kareena saying “The scooter is good but your Tamil is bad!” Karan, when quizzed about the experience of working with Kareena, said that the top actress didn’t throw any starry tantrum nor displayed any ego during the shooting. The ad was reportedly shot in the first week of December in Mumbai.
“Kareena was extremely cooperative and talkative; as I knew Hindi very well, I didn’t have any problems in conversing with her. Lingusamy’s Vettai, which was released two days after Nanban, has got an overwhelming response from the audience. Well, this has made the cash register ringing thereby making good collections at the Tamil Box Office.

Vettai was released in 440 theatres in India (in Tamil Nadu – 260) and in 110 theatres overseas. While the movie has earned Rs 14 crore in four days at the Domestic Box Office, it has collected close to Rs 1.5 crore at the International Market. The total collection of the film stands at Rs 15.5 crore.
The multi-starrer opened up to 85% occupancy on the release date followed by 90% on Sunday. The movie not only ran packed houses in the single screens but also in multiplexes in the metros. On an average, the per screen collection of Vettai comes close to Rs 3.40 crore in India, claims a source.
In the UK Box Office, Vettai has earned £17,605 (Rs 13.86 lacs) in its first weekend. The film is generating £1,174 per show in 15 screens. Whereas, in the US and Canada, the Tamil film has done excellent business. It has approximately collected $87,921 (approx. Rs 44.59 lacs) in 34 screens. The per screen average per show stands at $2,586.
The film has been released in six screens in Australia and it has managed to collect A$7,791 (approx. Rs 4.13 lacs). On an average, it is working out to A$1,299.

His last release is Paiyaa with Karthi and Tamanna in the lead roles. The film went on to become a big hit, that recently the Hindi remake rights are bought by a leading producer.

Story
The film is about two brothers Thirumurthi(Madhavan) and Gurumurthi(Arya) who share a great bond right from childhood with a police family background in Thoothukudi. While Thiru is a innocent boy who grows up in the same way whereas Guru is the exact opposite, He is bold and ready to clash with anyone that comes in his brother’s way. They grow up in the same manner till the later days too.
On the other side it is Vasanthi(Sameera Reddy) and Jayanthi(Amala Paul) who are born as sisters who remains naughty at all times. At one point these two brothers and sisters clash each other at funny circumstances and love blossoms between them.
There enters the Villian Ashutosh Rana and his gang who threatens the people of thoothukudi in every manner. At this point Thiru was given the responsibility to become the next Police officer on the lines of his father and grandfather. When the whole police department which includes Naseer and Thambi Ramaiah in special roles who are expecting Thiru to be a strict and bold person, they soon find out that he is fearful and calm natured.
Thirumurthi ties knot with Vasanthi at one point but troubles follow them so, Arya comes with a plan to switch sides without anyone’s notice. Soon the Villian group finds out this and smashes Guru at one stage. Now it is upto Thiru whether to become strong or stay weak which forms the rest of the climax.
Performance
Lingusamy has yet once again proved that he is a director who can give a high action oriented film with full of Commercial values like his earlier ventures, especially adding a Mass scene of Ajith’s Mankatha at the right place. Madhavan as the innocent brother and police officer steals the show with his screen presence with Sameera Reddy, whereas Arya as the angry young man gives an high action entertainment to the audience. Amala Paul with her cute looks and romance turns up your body heat.
Also Naseer and Thambi Ramaiah has did their roles with perfection. Ashutosh Rana and Muthukumar the one who was seen as the elder brother of Nani in Veppam remains as the same gangsters of action films. Raja Sundaram appears in a cameo role and does his part well.
Technicalities
Nirav Shah has scored big time with his Cinematography with rich visuals remains as the backbone of the film’s narration. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja has been a highlight with rocking Bgms all over. While Editing by Antony gives a racy and crisp feel to the viewers.
Even though the film carries 5 songs, the film maintains the tempo till the end.
Analysis
Madhavan’s comeback will be Vettai for sure. The charming actor who was missing in Tamil cinema’s for a long period of time is back with a bang. Arya as the brother of Madhavan suits the character without any flaws and shares equal importance. Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul fill glamour to this high end action film.

NANBAN MOVIE REVIEW

The official remake of the blockbuster Three Idiots is here! We wondered, when lesser blockbusters were being remade, why this cracker of a story was not finding its way down south. But, all good things take some time in the making and it is somehow fitting that a tale loved by most part of the nation, first in the form of Chetan Bhagath’s ‘Five Point Someone’ and then in the form of Rajkumar Hirani’s Three Idiots, is brought down south by Shankar, the man with the Midas touch.
Well, there are very few people who might not yet know the basic premise of the movie; thanks mostly to the overwhelming success of the book and the original movie. Its about three friends, the four years they spend in college with one of them trying to be a free bird in a system that clips wings, their run ins with a draconian educationist, a cute romance angle and a secret. Well, that’s a lot on the plate of a single movie, you might think. But, the script is one masterpiece, originally by Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinodh Chopra, as it brings together all these elements into a fun filled, hilarious, touching, meaningful and immensely entertaining three hours. You get everything that you would want to from a college movie; the camaraderie that you cherish forever, the pressure of academics, marks, the fun and even the geeks and nerds. Nanban is not a full length comedy, but there are numerous instances which will make your belly ache with laughter (the ‘karpazhippu’ scene is an absolute scream); neither is Nanban a love story, but it does have a very likeable romance; Nanban is also not a social statement, but it does point out some gaping holes in the educational system. Well then, what is Nanban? Well, it is a complete package for those who love good, clean, sensible entertainment (that means all of us!).
Nanban marks the return of Shankar to a youth oriented film after Boys, that was eight years back. It also marks the return of Vijay to a completely youth centric college goer role. And boy, haven’t they gone all out to make it a success. We don’t see Vijay in the movie, it is only Panchavan Parivendhar! He has given himself completely to the role, surrendering to the demands of the script. For an actor who has played the ‘carefree guy who loathes books’ stereotype almost all his career, this is one role that offers a diametric opposite. Vijay takes it on and proves his versatility. The years have not dimmed his boyish charm and energy, you don’t doubt for a second whether he is a college student; an almost perfect performance. Jiiva brings in his own charms to the movie, as the God fearing guy who just wants to get through college and start earning but is far too apprehensive and distracted. We have seen his comic timing before; he uses it beautifully here too, and scores with the sentiments as well. You just have to watch him start the ‘induction motor’! Srikanth, the dark horse! Well, he holds up well with the more seasoned performers and when he gets a chance, he proves his mettle in the quite emotional scene with his father. A very well balanced act!
What can we say about Ileana? Where was she for almost 5 years after Kedi? Never mind, because she is back with a bang. A very impressive performance which uses glamour only as an embellishment, not main item itself. She shows no difficulty with Tamil, displays quite a crackling chemistry with Vijay, emotes well and dances with élan. We could see more of her in Tamil cinema very soon. But, the big surprise packet of the whole affair is none other than Sathyaraj. As the hard nosed principal of an engineering college who wants to treat everyone as a machine, he excels and proves that class and experience is a combination that cannot be bogged down for long. His dialogue delivery is absolutely spot on. Sathyan gets a huge opportunity and doesn’t let it go as he makes the nerdy ‘Silencer’ memorable in Tamil too; he carries off the utterly important ‘karpazhippu’ scene perfectly. Hope he gets more fitting opportunities in the future. S.J.Suryah’s cameo is also good.
The best thing about Nanban is its casting! Shankar has put in a lot of thought and roped in just the right actors for each and every role. Even the smallest of characters seem to have been hand picked, the results show. Dialogues by Shankar and Madhan Karky are sharp, witty, funny and meaningful as different occasions demand. They have imported the meaning of the original Hindi lines without making the Tamil look artificial, a very deft job. Harris Jeyaraj brings in his musical touch, we enjoy ‘Asku Laska’. Manoj Paramahamsa makes every frame pleasing on the eye, the work in ‘Asku Laska’ is particularly good.
You really have to be a hard nosed person to find faults with this movie, much like Sathyaraj’s character. But, one could say that the crash course in child delivery atop a TT table is a bit difficult to believe! And, one also cannot understand a student of an engineering college in Tamil Nadu wearing a very north Indian sherwani for his college speech. Also, why is Virumandi Santhanam’s daughter’s marriage looking so much like a north Indian affair with turbans and all? Perhaps Shankar could have changed these from Three Idiots. But, again, these are minute flaws in an otherwise top class product.
Nanban has got more than something for everyone. It is very unlikely that a person finds such a wholesome package unsatisfying. Yes, Vijay does not show any heroism; he gives it all up for the integrity of the script. But, fans, don’t be disheartened, because what you get it lieu more than makes up for it. The only way you can detract from the achievement of this team is through the fact that the movie almost looks like a frame by frame remake of Three Idiots, especially in the first half. Do we need a creative genius like Shankar to give us a frame by frame remake? We see his signature only in the song picturisation. But, look at it this way. The original was so good that even a genius like Shankar hardly felt like making any changes. So, lets applaud Shankar for trusting the original and resisting the temptations to give his own touches. Also, let us not forget to applaud the makers of the original, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinodh Chopra, for building a script that would work anywhere in India. If you haven’t seen Three Idiots, Nanban will be an absolutely joyful experience. And if you have seen it, still go for Nanban and relive the magic; it’s worth it.

One KS Nagaraj , proprietor of Vinmeen Creations has sought a stay on the shooting of Vikram’s Karikalan.
A Chennai civil court has issued notices to four parties including Vikram on a petition filed by KS Nagaraj, who said he had the “pre-emptive rights to the title and the story of the film”.

The petitioner says while he was in school he became interested in the history of the Chola emperor Karikalan who built the first dam in the country.
In 1991 he began working on the script based on the king’s life. And in 1994 he registered the title of the film with the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce. He spent around Rs 10 lakhs mobilising funds for the project, but it did not take off.
The matter is to come up on January 12 at the 15th assistant city civil court.

I’m also doing a couple of Telugu films as well. In fact, I love the professional ethics and work culture followed both in Telugu and Tamil film industries.
“Shooting schedules are strictly adhered to as per original plans which are quite appreciable. Only recently, I completed the shooting of one of the Telugu films. The shooting schedule of the other film was halted due to the Telengana struggle; I now come to know that the film has since been abandoned for the time being. I’m not sure when the shooting schedule would resume.
“Like Kajal, I’d love to star in films in all languages. Soon, I’d be making my debut in Bollywood as well. Whatever film offers I’m getting, I first discuss it with Kajal and then decide about which ones to take up and which ones to reject. We both criticize each other’s work in a constructive manner which helps us to avoid whatever errors we might commit.
“Irrespective of the money offered to me, I shall never put on swim-wear in any of my movies. I’d always ensure that the costume(s) I put on doesn’t make me and the audiences feel embarrassed,” concludes Nisha.

‘Achamundu Achamundu’ is the suspense thriller that casts Lovebirds Prasanna and Sneha in the leads. During this film’s shoot the pair fell in love. Two months ago the couple made a formal announcement about their relationship and the wedlock.
Prasanna and Sneha were recently spotted in cuddappah in Andhra Pradesh. The stars have offered prayers in famous Darga and Prasanna said “Many told us that this is a very powerful Darga and hence we offered our prayers there on Thursday. As far as our marriage is concerned, we will make an announcement by the end of January.”
Sneha also confirmed her love with Prasanna, without elaborating. It is heard that elders in both the families had interactions and taken a decision regarding the marriage of the stars.

Following the grand success of ‘Why This Kolaveri Di’, Sony BMG has now pulled in STR to gain its global acclaim for ‘Tamil. Silambarasan has composed and crooned the song ‘Love Anthem’ that has the word ‘Love’ uttered in 96 foreign languages.

The first version of the song was recently aired on online portals, which got good hits in youtube. However, it’s worth mentioning that Silambarasan has used the word ‘Kadhal’ in a line, which is supposed to be ‘Anbu’.

It makes a lot of difference between ‘Anbu’ and ‘Kadhal’ though ‘Love’ symbolizes universal meaning.

Vettai and Nanban, will not be released on the same day.

Trade sources say that Nanban and Vettai may not release on the same day after all. There is a buzz that Nanban will hit the screens on January 12^th and Vettai on January 14^th. This means there would be a one day gap which is very important in the current scenario to rake up the collections at the box office.
Both Nanban and Vettai are the most expected films of the year. Nanban is directed by Shankar and has Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana and Sathyaraj in important roles while Vettai is directed by Lingusamy and has Arya, Madhavan, Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul.

Suriya is always serious about giving his best to what he does. So, when he agreed to host ‘Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi’, the Tamil version of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, he wanted to do enough homework before standing in front of the camera.
“I went to Mumbai and watched personally how Amitabh Bachchan hosted the show. He was amazing and understands well the mind of the contestant. He works really hard and prepares himself well for the show,” says Suriya.
Suriya also watched clippings of Shah Rukh Khan hosting ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. “SRK anchors the show with a lot of humanity and he showers care and compassion on the contestants. Both the Big B and Shah Rukh have some lessons for television anchors.”
Currently busy shooting for ‘Maatraan’ directed by K V Anand, Suriya is expected to start his next film soon, to be directed by Venkat Prabhu. A sequel to ‘Singam’ with Hari is also in the pipeline for the actor.

Tamannaah, Trisha, Nayanthara, Shriya, Sneha and Reema did not figure anywhere in our list and a new bevy of young skilled huntresses were supposed to take over in 2011.
At the beginning of 2011, We gave a list of who the sexiest pin-up girl of 2011 in Kollywood will be? The young actresses who were contenders for Number one slot in 2011, in our list were Hansika, Shruti, Taapasee, Oviya, Karthika, Amala, Varalakshmi. But sadly, none of these girls could create a massive impact.
No one knows how to stay at the top better than Anushka. While it may be a tad mystifying as to how she is in our list, with just two average films Vaanam and Deivathirumagal, the answer may well lie in her sheer redoubtable star power. She is on the wish list of Rajini, Kamal to all top stars who want her to ink their projects. She is doing Karthi’s untitled film directed by Suraj, Selvaraghavan’s Irandam Ulagam with Arya, Vikram’s AL Vijay actioner Thaandavam.
Kajal Aggarwal may not have a single release in Tamil in 2011, but she has emerged as Anushka’s biggest competitor. She is doing films with two hot ‘n’happening stars, Maatran with Suriya and Thuppakki with Vijay.
Hansika started the year with Maapillai, followed it up with Engeyum Kadhal and ended the year with the hit Velayudham. She came out with flying colours but is yet to be a part of a blockbuster hit. She has STR’s Vettai Mannan and Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Rajesh directed OKOK coming up for release, which is sure to take her places.
Lakshmi Rai made a wild card entry with two blockbusters Kanchana and Mankatha but it was Anjali, Ananya, Richa and Inaya who made an impact by proving that they can act and hold immense potential for 2012.
Amala managed to be a newsmaker who was able to create a buzz around her- be it her confidence factor, photo-shoot for magazines and her link-up with director Vijay. In Deivathirumagal, her only release in 2011 she had to play second fiddle to Anushka. 2012 looks promising for her with Vettai and Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal ready for release
Trisha proved that she is a big-budget survivor by being a part of the blockbuster hit Mankatha in which she had to share screen space with Lakshmi Rai and Anjali.
Taapsee’s Aadukalam was her trump card but critics lambasted her Vandaan Vendraan which was a b-o turkey but one flop does not make or break a career. She is yet to sign any new projects in Tamil.
Shruthi Haasan had a dream debut with 7 aum Arivu, a role that was too heavy for the young girl to carry it on her tender shoulders. Shruti may have some proving to do on the acting chops front,but her screen presence is unmistakable. Her much-hyped Aishwarya Dhanush directed 3 releases in 2012 and that will be the real test.
Karthika was touted to make waves especially after her debut film Ko became a super hit. But there was no buzz around her and her decision to be too choosy and stay away from limelight made her a dampener. Oviya and Amy Jackson were wiped out while lady luck didn’t smile at Varalakshmi in 2011 as her debut film Poda Podi is yet to be completed.
Nayanthara and Reema Sen did not have a single release and news about their impending marriage in 2012 has affected their market. Shriya who had a b-o turkey in Routhiram is sending feelers to all the directors but is yet to bag any project.
Tamannah had Siruthai a hit and Venghai in 2011 but the actess has more or less said goodbye to Kollywood and is concentrating in Telugu.

Top actress Kajal Aggarwal won a major battle against a hair oil company for using her photo in an ad, after the contract period expired.
Now Madras High Court has restrained the hair oil company VVD & Sons from using advertisements featuring her.
Kajal had dragged the company to court stating that it continued to use her ad even after the expiry of the one year contract.
