Nayantara's candid statement

Heroines have a way of being evasive if questioned about them being glamorous onscreen. Most of them veil in the safe statement, 'I will pose glamorous, if the script demands'. But, a different Nayantara says, 'Glamour roles gave me the break'.
Nayantara is relying high hopes on her last jack ‘Villu’ to bring her luck and regain her iconic image in Kollywood. Nayantara shares screen space with Vijay in this movie directed by Prabhu Deva. The movie is getting released two days ahead Pongal, on 12th January.
The self-relied actress confirms about making decisions on her own without any third parties interference, and continues, "I don't heed anyone's advice about choosing my roles. I personally discuss it with my manager at times but in the end, I do what I feel is right. I don't think someone should inculcate me about doing glamour or selecting movies."
'I got a hike in my career after my riveting glam quotient in 'Billa'. When I feel desperate to do plausible demeanors, it doesn't come my way. If you question me, why I don't prefer anything over glamour, how am I to say no for such roles that come my way to share screen space in movies featuring star heroes made under renowned banners,' retorts Nayantara.
Sounds like a reasonable question, is there anyone to answer?

This Pongal, Vijay fans and mass masala lovers are in for a treat, as the most hyped movie 'Villu' is getting released. After 'Pokiri', director Prabhudeva is now coming with 'Villu' starring Vijay and Nayantara in the lead cast. Bharat Creations is distributing the movie in USA with more than 10 prints during the festive occasion.
Vijay's stylish extravaganza, Nayantara's near-to-baring outfits and uproarious comedy of Vadivelu are said to the USP of the movie. Azhagiya Tamizh Magan's lukewarm response has drifted away and now fans are gearing up to see Vijay in his usual best. Loaded with one liners, stylish looks and macho stunts, Vijay is all set to enrapture the audience. Good news is the movie is hitting the screens on 12 Jan itself, before Pongal. The showtimes and advance bookings in the major cities of Bay Area, New Jersey, Virginia, Detroit, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angles, Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago, Boston and Connecticut starts tomorrow.

Karthiga begins a new journey with Dindigul

Though she made a beginning with 'Nam Naadu' opposite Sarath Kumar in Tamil, she was still to strike the right chord until 'Dindigul Sarathy' happened.
'I was given an offer to act in the Tamil remake of Malayalam hit 'Vadakku Nokki Enthiram'. Everyone asked to reconsider the offer stating that it has lesser known star cast and that comedian Karunaas is playing the hero. However I had faith in the script. It paid rich dividends now. 'Dindigul Sarathy' has taken me to very household today', says Karthiga.
She is currently acting in movies including 'Nootrukku Nooru' opposite Vinay, A couple of Tamil movies 'Aaru Maname', 'Naalai Namadhe' and a Malayalam flick 'Gowsthubam'.
"I want to choose scripts, where the story is the real hero. All my forthcoming films have different storyline and I have a scope to play", she says and adds, "I want to concentrate more on Tamil. I want to achieve a lot here".

Suriya plays baddie

Actor Suriya is busy giving final touches to his movie 'Ayan'. Directed by K V Anand and produced by AVM, the movie is almost complete and would be released very soon.
Meanwhile, the actor has opened his heart out about his next. His next venture is tentatively titled Aadhavan and it would be directed by K S Ravikumar. The director, considered a man with Midas touch, would be working with Suriya for the first time. It looks likely that Nayantara might play the female lead.
According to Suriya, 'it would not be the regular run-of-the-mill-stuff. It would be hugely different and unlike Ravikumar's regular stuff. I play the lead role with some negative shades for the first time in my career'.
Asked whether Jyothika would make her comeback again to big screen, Suriya says, ' it is up to her to decide. Perhaps if she comes across a script like 'Chandramukhi', she would think about coming back'.
Suriya will reportedly work with Mysskin for a movie later this year.

Two climax for 'Naan Kadavul'

Director Bala's 'Naan Kadavul' is complete and all works are on to ensure the early release of the movie. Starring Arya and Pooja in the lead role, the movie was shot in Kasi, Kanchipuram and Periyakulam. Sources say Bala has shot two endings for the film.
The film is about a father, who for spiritual and astrological amends drives his son away from home. The boy leaves Tamilnadu and takes refuge in Kasi. He (Arya) grows up in the midst of 'Saadhus' and 'Sanyasins' and become one with matted hair and unkempt looks. Meanwhile, realizing his folly, the father goes in search of his son to Varanasi. Shocked to see his son in such a state, he decides to bring his back to his home town. His encounters in Tamilnadu and turn of events after he leaves to Varanasi forms the story.
Sources close to the director reveal that the director has shot two climaxes for the film. The originally planned one has the heroine giving up her life and the male protagonist literally 'eating' her flesh. However amidst doubts whether such an ending would go down well the Tamil audience, Bala has reportedly shot another climax and kept it ready.

Mysskin to give credit to “Kikujiro”

Director Mysskin's 'Nandhalala' is almost wound up for an early release. The director, who has churned out films like “Chithiram Pesuthadi” and “Anjathey”, is keen to make a mark with 'Nandhalala' in which he plays the lead role besides directing it.
The movie is seemingly inspired by Japanese flick “Kikujiro”, directed by Taikeshi Kitano. It is about the journey of a young child. Released in 1999, the movie swept many awards. 'Kathale Kannalae' Snightha is also in the cast.
Interestingly, Mysskin was tight-lipped when the project initially began. However after pointed out buy certain section of media that the movie is actually a take-off of “Kikujiro”, Mysskin has eventually decided to give due credit to the original version in the title card itself.
Meanwhile, sources close to the director say he is planning his next inspired by August “Rush” (2007), a drama film directed by Kirsten Sheridan and written by Paul Castro.

Varaan Da 'Villu': Worldwide release on Jan 12

A number of films may be lined up for the festival of Pongal but the most expected film undoubtedly is Ilaya thalapathi Vijay's "Villu" produced by Ayngaran International which will be released on the 12th of January. The combination of Prabudeva and Vijay has already tasted success in "Pokiri" and the same is expected by audiences and the film industry. If some bank on the ability of Prabudeva for the success formula, it's quite different with Vijay – the mass following alone works wonders. Due to this anticipation, Vijay makes it a point to don larger-than-life roles. Though the mass following ensures success at most times it has to be noted that certain of his films have met with lukewarm responses in the past.
Inspired from the Hindi film 'Soldier', 'Villu' has a strong story line suiting Vijay. A major plus for the film are the song sequences which have been tailor-made for Vijay. His combo with Prabudeva in the title song might just go on to be a big Pongal treat for his fans. The punch dialogues are yet another additional bonus in the film.
Nayantara, one of the highly paid damsels in the industry has paired up with Vijay for the first time and is desperately in need of a hit film. Her stylish dance, comedy sequences with Vadivelu and her love scenes with Vijay are certain to meet with the expectations of the fans. Appreciations have already started to flow, with director Prabudeva saying "She is an asset to the film and her on-screen chemistry is excellent with Vijay."
Musical score by Devi Sri Prasad and the songs are reportedly creating flutters among the fans. Choreography is done by five choregraphers - Raju Sundaram, Shobi, Asok Raj, Baba Bhaskar and Dinesh.
'Villu' is all ready to hit the screens on the 12th of this month (ahead of Pongal). More than anything else the 'mass hero factor' of Vijay may prove to be the USP of the film. Without any semblance of doubt this is the film that is eagerly awaited this festive season.

Special addition to Naan Kadavul!

Naan Kadavul's audio album now has a recent addition, a gift of sorts by Maestro Ilayaraja. After the movie's composition was over, Ilayaraja seems to have felt the urge to add another song on Lord Shiva in the movie. The new song penned and sung by the maestro himself, will be featured in the film's title track.

Most of the other songs, written by Vaali, have already won wide acclaim from the music critics and lovers alike. Especially the goose-bump inducing Sanskrit number seems to be on its way topping the charts, aver music buffs. Naan Kadavul is slated for a Pongal release.

Suraj opens up on 'Padikathavan'

After a big hit in 'Marudhamalai', director Suraj will be out to try his luck with Padikathavan starring Dhanush and Tamanna this Pongal.
Says Suraj, ' Padikathavan is an 'agmark' Dhanush film. It would everything a Dhanush film would have. There is an overdose of comedy and Vivek in the company of Dhanush will bring the roof down with laughter'.
Throwing light on the story, he says, ' it is the story of a youth, who is bad in his academics and the problems and insults that he face in his family. Tamanna plays a aeronautics student. The encounter between them is the story. Suman plays Tamanna's father. Atul Kulkarni and Shayaji Shinde are also in the cast'.
'To be presented by Sun Pictures, 'Padikathavan' would have everything for people to enjoy. Manisharma's music is a major plus', he said.

With many films being shot for more than 2 years, Antony has brimmed with a different style.

Has Asin said goodbye to Kollywood?

The ladies who migrated up north
It is ironical to notice how language seems to have so little bearing on a lady’s entry into cinema. Kollywood has always had many leading ladies who do not have much of a grip on Tamil. It has become more prevalent now when every second debutant heroine is a model from Mumbai. One might think that Kollywood always borrows a lot from the fertile grounds of Bollywood where one gets trained camera savvy models ready for cinema. There is no denying this fact, but a point that is often ignored is how much Bollywood has borrowed from Kollywood over the decades. While Tamil cinema recruits fresh faces from the North, Hindi cinema attracts established actresses from the south. After a few years of success down south, going up north has been a sort of logical progression though not many have made that transition successfully. But, those who managed to get a toehold in Bollywood never came back, or should we say that they never got the chance or the time to come back to Tamil, one cannot be sure.
There are many examples to show how many heroines from Kollywood have migrated up north. Vyjayanthimala Bali was perhaps the first to show that such a transition was possible in spite of language concerns. Vyjayanthimala did not have to do many movies in Tamil before her chance in Hindi came knocking and she never looked back, becoming one of the top stars of the industry. The biggest of all however was Sridevi’s move to Bollywood after a hugely successful few years in Tamil. Though in her initial years at Bollywood she did manage to make herself available for a few select Tamil movies, once into the mid-eighties her stardom touched new heights giving her no room to accommodate Tamil assignments. Even if she did, they happened once in a blue moon. Of all those who migrated to Bollywood from the south, only Jaya Prada can claim to have balanced work between two industries, Hindi and Telugu.
The above mentioned actresses are only those who managed to find success in Bollywood. There are many others who took the plunge but were not lucky enough to see success that could sustain them in Bollywood for long. Shriya’s recent attempts are good examples, the young lady has not yet hit on a script that can put her in a position akin to what she enjoys in Kollywood. Simran, Naghma, the late Soundarya, Ramya Krishnan and many others have had a roll of the dice in Bollywood, with varying degrees of success, none enough to fuel further progress and thankfully they returned to Kollywood. But, not one actress who has found success has been able to return. It is in the same spot that Asin now stands. Her debut has received tremendous praise, she has become an overnight star. Her debut was with a Khan and her second movie is with another Khan, she has signed her third movie opposite a youth sensation and all the while we have not heard of her signing up any new Tamil movie. The best we heard was about a movie by Walt Disney with Kamal, but we doubt whether that will be in Tamil. So, the question is, have we seen the last of Asin in an original Tamil movie? Hope not.

Filmmaker from Norway in Kollywood

Winning laurels for all his 8 short films in these years, here comes a filmmaker to make his debut directorial in Kollywood. Haridas, a lecturer in a college of Norway earlier made a Malayalam film ‘Moonu Ponnu’ in 1994. The film was a sensational hit amongst the masses and later he continued making short films.
His debut film in Tamil has been titled as ‘Meendum Meendum’ where he himself dons the lead role. Produced by 21st Century Films, the film will be a mix of commercial and offbeat motif together.
Ah! Commercial means ‘fast beat Kuthu songs’ and ‘clumsy jokes and heroines’? shoot this question out to Director Haridas and he is so put down with sad looks. ‘Definitely not with those factors’ says Haridas who continues adding, ‘in all my short films, there has been a strong theme and when I depict them in full length feature, it will be narrated in a gripping suspenseful manner’.

‘Rayilu’ with fantastic attributes

In fact, this ‘Rayilu’ would be a luxurious ride of enriching theme. Yup! the film is a remake of Malayalam film ‘Sallabam’ directed by National Award Winner Lohit Das. Well, the remake version has Actor Ranjith himself wielding megaphone and playing lead role. Recently, a press meet was hosted by the crew of ‘Rayilu’.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjith uttered, ‘Right from my youth days, I had an insatiable passion for making good films. Making my debut directorial with ‘Bhishmar’, I won whole lot of critical acclaims, but at box office the results were about flunking. But, by all means I would like to win both good appreciations as well best collections with this film’.
The most fascinating part of the event was actress Caroline getting to speak on her turn. Unlike Trisha and other actresses who despites born in Chennai as if they don’t know Tamil, Caroline were something different… Being an Anglo-Indian, she was so fluent in Tamil and that took everyone to a greater surprise. Hope! every actress who make their entry into filmdom are like Caroline.

'Villu' will be Vijay's most stylish film: Prabhu Deva

The director of Vijay's latest flick Prabhu Deva exudes confidence that 'Villu' will be a wonderful entertainer but at the same time admits to butterflies in his stomach.
'This will be more like an MGR film that sends out positive vibes' says Prabhu Deva and adds that the format would be that of a James Bond film with fight sequences in air, water and on land. So Mr. Prabhu Deva …. does Vijay replace Daniel Craig in Villu?
We'll know the answer on the 12th of this month as 'Villu' releases ahead of Pongal to cash in on the hype that surrounds the film. Dusky damsel Nayantara is part of the project and Prabhu Deva has wonderful things to say about her hard work and commitment.
'Despite being a big star she has been totally involved in the project and we are all happy with her performance. Her comedy scenes with Vadivelu in the first half will be a laugh riot for about 50 minutes. Vijay is also part of these sequences. The way Vadivelu gets sandwiched between them will be more like a Tom and Jerry show and I am sure that'll be loved by children' said Prabhu Deva.

'It is very difficult to make a mass entertainer', admits Prabhu Deva. 'We have to make an action film and to deliver something that everybody knows is tough. I am happy with the entertainment value that 'Villu' has' said the ace dancer turned director.
Prabhu Deva said he had never declared that Vijay plays a double role but maintains that he'd like to keep that in 'suspense'. When asked if he appears in any song sequence he said 'suspense'.
When questioned what his future projects would be, Prabhu Deva's demeanor changed like that of a little boy deprived of ice cream and said 'I can think only after Villu releases'.
With all the talk of the word 'stylish' shrouding 'Villu' one gets the feeling….is 'Villu' Vijay's answer to Ajith's 'Billa'.
The D-Day is on the 12th …. let's see if 'Villu' reaches out to the masses as Vijay and Prabhu Deva intend.

Time to quit for Barathi

Barathi shot to limelight with her exemplary performance in Ammuvagiya Naan. Later, she went on to act in Nenjathai Killadhe, which did not do well at the box office. Her forthcoming venture Sattrumun Kidaitha Thagaval is due to hit the screens very soon. Though this lady has immense potential to make it big on screen, Barathi prefers to get back to studies.

According to Barathi, no good roles came her way after Ammuvagiya Naan that is worth starring. The decision to get back to studies is based solely on this, she added. Barathi made it clear that she would reconsider her decision to act again if roles that interest her come by. It is indeed sad to see such a gifted actress say goodbye to filmdom.

Nayanthara denies her ‘fox-act’ with Ileana

Not many actresses do consume their foods so happily as they are always suppressed by their diet. But, Nayanthara is an elision as she doesn’t avoid any food items prepared by her mom. The reason is to transform her physiques from six packs to a bulky structure. It all happened heeding to Vishal’s instructions that posed Nayan in an awkward form.
Now busy shooting for her Malayalam film ‘Bodyguard’, she wants to gain more weight. Leave it apart! Why does brim up with cunning acts of grabbing Ileana’s offer there in Tollywood as Trisha does it for Nayan over here. Ask her about this and she shockingly says, ‘Unlike others, I am not such crooked to grab other offers. I know the pain of losing one’s opportunities and wouldn’t commit such blunders. If you still have intense doubt, ask Ileana about it’….
