Film fraternity pours in to pay last respects to Nagesh

The Tamil film industry is in a state of grief following the demise of one of its most senior artistes. Nagesh, a veteran with more than 1000 films to his credit, is one of the most respected and revered figures in the industry. He had not been in good health in the recent past. Today morning, he complained of chest pain and passed away when he was being taken to the hospital. He is survived by 3 sons, Anandh Babu, Ramesh Babu and Rajesh Babu. The final rites are expected to be performed tomorrow at around noon at Besant Nagar.
His demise has sent a shock not only across the film industry, but to all the people who have watched him in movies over the years. Many names from the film industry have been pouring in right from the time the news of his demise was known. CM Kalaignar Karunanidhi has also expressed his grief over the death of Nagesh.
Among those who paid their last respects to Nagesh since morning are Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Manorama, S.S.Rajendran, Delhi Ganesh, K.S.Ravikumar, Kovai Sarala, K.Balachander, Bharathiraja, Vasanth, Suriya, Vivek, S.Ve.Sekar, Y.G.Mahendran, Mohan, Rajesh, Santhana Bharathi, Goundamani, Murali and many others.

The Villu backlash

The Tamil Nadu Theater Owner's Association met today morning at Teynampet. The meeting was chaired by President Annamalai and attended by all important office bearers like secretary Paneerselvam and treasurer Pazhaniappan. The meeting started with the official condolences of the demise of the former Indian president R. Venkatraman, the former Prime Minister V.P. Singh and the veteran actor Nagesh. The meeting also congratulated A.R. Rahman on his Golden Globe victory and Oscar nominations. A resolution was passed condemning the death of innocent Tamilians in Sri Lanka.
The main motion of the meeting was however with regard to usual business matters. The theater owners have said that they are not responsible for the rise in ticket rates. It is the rise in production costs of movies that has necessitated such a step. They said that more than the production costs, it is the demand of minimum guarantee payment by the distributors that is forcing them to raise prices.
Citing a recent example, they said that this Pongal, Villu had been bought on an MG basis and the relative poor performance of the film had incurred them heavy losses. Padikathavan's performance however was on the more satisfactory side.
The demand that they put forth was to scrap all MG payments and share the risk associated with film on an equal basis and share the profits on a percentage basis. The producers and distributors have to be ready for a joint dialogue.

Nasser has become Maharaja

Nasser is one of the very few actors, who can do any role with ease and élan. Be it a villain or a character artist or shouldering all the burden of playing the hero, he is right there to do it with aplomb.
During his busy shoot for his forthcoming film 'Maharaja', he queries, 'Is their any rule that I should do only villain roles? I like trying different avatars and dancing with young girls for the film 'Maharaja'. It is part of my profession. I like it and hope the audience too would welcome the change'.
On the film, he said, "I am playing a LIC agent in Maharaja. Anjali, Anitha, Saranya and a new comer Sathya are there in the film. The storyline is gripping and this is the reason behind my acceptance for this offer."
Happy to note the changes in today's Tamil film industry, he says, 'gone are the days when films were made with heavy budgets by cashing in on larger-than-life heroes. Now, even big companies are showing interest to make small-budget movies.'

Meghna in 'Enga Veetu Pillai'

The young Megna, who is making her debut in Kollywood with Kavithalaya Films production 'Krishnaleelai', is flying high. Even before her maiden venture could hit the screens, she has managed to bag a plum offer in Tamil cinema.
Megna is now cast opposite Bharath for a movie titled 'Enga Veetu Pillai'. Directed by Sundar C's associate Badri, the film is produced by the famed Vijaya Vauhini Productions. Besides Bharath and Megna, the movie features Prabhu, Vivek among others.
Megna is the star couple Sunder Raj and Pramila's daughter and her parents were erstwhile introduced by K Balachander to silver screen.

Veteran Tamil actor Nagesh dead

Veteran comedian Nagesh, who carved a niche for himself in the Tamil film industry both in humourous and character roles, died here today after a brief illness, family sources said. Born as Gundu Rao to a Kannada Brahmin family in 1933, Nagesh was the most sought after actor in the MGR-Sivaji era of Tamil cinema in the 1960s and mid-seventies, and was a regular feature in the movies of these late superstars.

Sibi ready for the run

Sibiraj, son of veteran actor Sathyaraj, who is still to hit the bull's eye, is playing the baddie in 'Nanayam' opposite Prasanna. Donning a different-look, he plays a sophisticated baddie in the film.
Sibiraj was flooded with several offers soon to play similar roles. However, the actor chose to do one film at a time. After completing 'Nanayam', he would be venturing for a film to be directed by Nandhakumar.
Sibiraj will be back to play the romantic hero with this film once again. Nandhakumar, who churned out films like 'Jambhavan' and 'Thenavan', is confident that the movie which dwells on sweet romance would go on to become a hit. Search is on for the star cast.

Sattru Mun Kidaitha Thagaval Movie Review

Starring: Kanal Kannan, Bharathi, Sriman, Livingstone, Kausalya, Sethu, Ajay Rathnam, Karunaas, ManoharDirection: Buvanai RajaMusic: BalaProduction: S. Baskar
While on the one hand, it’s heartening to note that the movie-making trend is mushrooming even during the tough times of recession, the trend is equally underwhelming owing to the number of B graders flooding the movie halls. Sattru Mun Kidaitha Thagaval is an attempt at making a horror movie and a launch pad of sorts for stunt master Kanal Kannan, who had to so far satiate himself with
inconsequential roles of sidekicks in movies like Mudalvan, Avvai Shanmugi and recently Silambattam.
SMKT’s plot has probably the most number of twists - of the movies released in Tamil lately. Murders, murder suspects, sub plots, sub plots taking over the main plot and convolutions posing as teasers form the crux of the movie.
Kanal Kannan gets involved inadvertently in the murder of his niece, after being endorsed by her as mentally unstable. He is defended by a lawyer, played by Kushboo who vanishes from the plot for a good one hour after that. When she reemerges, Kanal Kannan is stuck in another murder accusation, which again was not committed by him. Will Kanal escape this web of entanglement forms the rest of the story, which is further complicated with another couple of murders.
SMKT also touches upon issues like casting couch and child molestation – in a rather makes-you-squirm manner. In a movie that runs only for a little more than an hour, Kanal Kannan shoulders most of the responsibilities. Bharathi, Kushboo and Livingston are in roles that are shoddily developed.
The outmoded background score deserves no mention as it does very little to the flow of the narrative. The swaggering camera ends up confusing the viewer with too many zoom in/outs in too little time. The final murder sequence, however, keeps you occupied.

Rahman’s sacrifices

A R Rahman has every reason to be the toast of the nation. Despite having won Golden Globe awards and Oscar nomination, the talented music composer remains grounded as always. In a recent interview to a vernacular weekly, Rahman mentions that he has sacrificed a lot in his life to reach this current place.
He states, “In my musical journey I have given up many things and had forfeited a lot. I have not been getting time to relax. I don’t party also. But as I love my job, I drown myself in it and deliver my best. As my life itself is around music I cherish every moment of it.”

Jayam Ravi’s makeup and Mysskin’s nostalgia

The audio launch of Kaartic Anithaa was held in Sathyam cinemas this morning which was well attended by luminaries from the Tamil tinsel world including directors Karu Pazhaniappan, Jayam Raja, Mysskin, Thangar Bachchan, Poo Sasi, Kreedom Vijay, Madhumitha, Editor Mohan and singer Harish Raghavendra. The first CD was
released by Jayam Ravi and was received by everyone present on the dais.
This film is directed by Sri Hari who apprenticed with art director G K and Sundar C. Debutant hero Rathan is the son of make up man Babu who is associated with Editor Mohan’s family for a long time. It is said that when Jayam Ravi made his first screen presence at seven years, it was Babu who applied make up for him. Music for the film is scored by Jack Anand who had earlier sung the western bit in the track Kaadal Theeye from the film Run.
While speaking at the function Mysskin reminisced fondly about his first producer of the film Chithiram Pesudadi and felt that every director should have a producer like him. Director Thangar Bachchan came strongly against actors who are not able to do anything on Srilankan Tamils issue.
Two songs and a trailer of the film were screened. The track Ayyayyo penned by Muthukumar appeared to highlight the relationship between a father and a son. Debutant Manju is the heroine while Kota Sreenivasa Rao and Rajan P Dev are said to feature in comical roles. The event was hosted by Maheswari.

After a serious film like Naan Kadavul, Arya has immediately shifted to a lighter
commercial one and will soon be doing Casanova in Malayalam.

Silambarasan and Gowtham may go together

Silambarasan is often ennobled as 'Jack of All Trades' as he is the one and only talented personality with wide knowledge about cinema. On the pars, being a great adorer of Hollywood films, Gowtham Menon too has been winning laurels across the masses.
But getting to watch commercial adorer with a Hollywood is something off-the-wall. If what sources say is true, then Gowtham Menon would be making a film for Silambarasan sooner.
As Gowtham parted away from Ajith, he has been gearing up for multiple scripts. Couple of Telugu films where Mahesh Babu and Allu Arjun play lead role are ready to take off. Meanwhile, his 'Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikalam' is nearing completion and now buzzes are the he is in talks with Simbhu. Over here in Nootrukku Nooru, he performs the role of a college student where 5 women fall in love with him. This is remake of yesteryear classic with the same title directed by K. Balachandar starring Jai Shankar in lead role.
Apart from these films, Vinay has planned to move about to Tollywood as there more good offers for him. The most exciting part is that Vinay can now speak Tamil fluently and would be dubbing with his own voice in his forthcoming films…

2009 - A bumper year for Mysskin

voracious reader of many fictions and novels, Mysskin seemed to have perceived more knowledge than what other filmmakers of Kollywood are here today. The auteur has well established himself in the industry with two poignant tales of ‘Chitthiram Pesudhadi’ and ‘Anjathey’. And now we have the leading actors of Kollywood at his doorsteps. Yeah! Surya who usually doesn’t join hands anyone except his favorite directors like Gowtham and Hari, has approached him a script. With the film slated to start rolling from mid of this year, Vishal has offered to do a film with Mysskin.
Vishal quite deplorable with the flop of ‘Satyam’ is busy shooting for his ‘Thoranai’ and earlier he had plans about joining hands with Director Selvaraghavan where Trisha was supposed to be pairing up with him. Recently, we got to hear the buzzes that all the five heroines of ‘Rajathi Raja’ have been on continuous tiffs. Asking Kamna about this, she says that none of the scenes include all these heroines getting together. Even when they meet on shooting spots, its more off jolliness with fun and frolic. There are no rooms for egoistic nature over there.
Adding more Kamna says, ‘Much before commencing the script, director Sakthi Chidambaram had assured that none would be over-shining each other on any frame. If this is the situation, we aren’t worried even if 4 more actresses are included in the film’.

Vijay meets his Fans

'Thiruda Thirudi' teams up again

Remember the most entertaining film before 4 years. 'Thiruda Thirudi' with no such big concept won the laurels from audiences with stunning collections at box office. Well, for those audiences who were completely gratified from this one have a reason to rejoice now.
Yup! Both Director Subramaniam Siva and Dhanush would be teaming up again for a film titled 'Un Mugam Parthaene'.

Indeed, sources closer to Dhanush have revealed that he would start shooting for this film once he is done with 'Idhu Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam' and another film with Polladhavan fame 'Vetrimaaran'.

Naan Kadavul with two climaxes

'Bad endings' – This is something none likes to watch when they're out of theatres. Of course, many films have turned to be witnessing disastrous results. Mani Rathnam witnessed it with 'Thalapathy' a film with superstars.
On the first show, it was Rajnikanth getting shot by the baddie and due to his fans getting disappointed; the climax was immediately changed on the next show.
Director Bala ready for the release of his 'Naan Kadavul'…. Now he has shot two versions of climax. If audiences are happy with the first one, it's well and good. If not, the climax would be changed immediately…

Asin clears off the rumors

Right from the day when Asin stepped into Bollywood, media channels have been depicting her so obnoxiously with more rumors. Well, heeding to few like Asin troubling Jiah Khan all throughout the shoot has really annoyed the actress.
About this Asin says, 'For everyone's kind information, we never shot together expect one particular scene. So, there are no probabilities for rumors penned.'
Apart from this she was repeatedly linked romantically with Aamir Khan as he was spending more time with her away from shooting.
Fine! When the actress doesn't touch anything about this and we didn't pressurize more on this. Moreover, it's her personal issues.
