Five Suriyas in ‘Maattran’

At a time when there are various theories doing rounds about Suriya’s character(s) in his upcoming film with K V Anand titled ‘Maattran’, the director himself has spilled the beans on the roles played by the actor.
“I am not ready to disclose as to how many characters Suriya is playing in ‘Maattran’. But I can say that he would appear in five different get-ups,” says the filmmaker, who is eagerly expecting the release of ‘Ko’, his latest venture.
Saying that he would start shooting ‘Maattran’ only after ‘Ko’ hit the screens, Anand adds that the film would be a different experience for him as well as Suriya. “It is a demanding script,” he says.
Produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram’s AGS Entertainment, Anand’s favourite team- Suriya, writers Suba and music composer Harris Jayaraj- is coming together once again in ‘Maattran’.

Karthik in Vikram’s film

If it was ‘Navarasa Nayagan’ Karthik who did an important role in Vikram’s last venture ‘Raavanan’, the Cheeyan’s forthcoming film, tentatively titled ‘Dheiva Magan’, would have Karthik Kumar in a pivotal role.
Popular for playing ‘NRI mappillai’ characters, Karthik would play a crucial role in the movie being directed by Vijay of ‘Kireedam’ and ‘Madrasapattinam’ fame, say sources close to the unit.
“Though it is a cameo, the role Karthik is playing in the movie is very important. The actor is happy about the joining the unit and the film is fast shaping up,” the sources further say.
Remember it was the same Karthik Kumar who played the lead role in Vijay’s second directorial venture ‘Poi Solla Porom’, a comedy caper which is about a family’s fight for its house.

YUDHAM SEI MOVIE REVIEW

Starring: Cheran, Dipa Shah
Direction: Mysskin
Music: Krishna Kumar @ K
Production: Kalpathi S Agoram

When there is a confluence of creative energies from the likes of Mysskin, Cheran and Ameer, the expectations are bound to soar up to stratospheric levels especially with Mysskin who is fresh from basking in the glory of his recent Nandalala. In this AGS production venture, Mysskin has chosen the crime and detection genre with Cheran as the protagonist steering the cast.

          Yudham Sei
J K (Cheran) is the honest CB-CID officer who is distressed when his sister Charu goes missing suddenly. When he is about to resign his job on her search, his superior hands him a sensational and a high profile assignment that requires untangling a case wherein severed and neatly packed body parts are continuously found in strategic places in the city. This trail takes Cheran to various people and places, and the link to his sister, culminating in many unprecedented twists and turns on the way.

What works for Yudham Sei is its linear narration and effective screen play. There are no unwanted elements in the form of comedy tracks or romantic angles. Mysskin has veered clear off the expected syntax of Tamil films of such genre. He has handled this subject with a few forensic aspects thrown in. The larger part of the film keeps the audience guessing and in suspense. He has also managed to tell his story with little known artists which requires appreciation.

In the performance department, brevity seems to be the key word with Cheran who scores by delivering a subtle portrayal. Jayaprakash gives him good support, although appearing for a short while. Y Gee Mahendra, a tonsured Lakshmi Ramakrishna, Dipa Shah, Selva and Naren form part of the supporting cast and provide the necessary foil.

Under newcomer Kay’s music, Kannitheevu Penna alone finds its place in the film where the much talked about ‘Yellow sari’ clad Neetu Chandra cavorts with Ameer and ‘blink and you miss’ Charu Niveditha. Mysskin tries to duck the complaint of this particular cliché of his by placing a relevant incident at the end of the ditty. Kay’s RR is sometimes perfect, delivering the right kind of mood for the film whereas in a few sequences it stands out obtrusively. Sathyan’s prying camera peeps, thrills, and gives the needed feel.

A genre such as this should have a frenzied pace to keep the viewer on the edge of the seat but Mysskin misses the bus here with a languorous mode of unfolding events. This could work for an emotional drama but a certain amount of pace which is required for thrillers is a casualty in YS. Besides that, the climax scene is the antithesis of all the tone and mood that was set in the entire film with characters behaving in a dramatic and non-Mysskinish manner.

Verdict: A slow paced well made thriller.

Bala says no to Rajini, Kamal

It’s every director’s wish in Kollywood to make at least one film with top stars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. But Bala, quite like his films, is straight contrast to this popular trend of decades.
“I will never direct a film with either Rajinikanth or Kamal Haasan. Because they too would not come forward to work with me,” the director of ‘Sethu’, ‘Nanda’, ‘Pithamagan’ and ‘Naan Kadavul’ says.
Bala, who insisted at the recent directors’ association function that he would receive a gold card only from the hands of his mentor Balumahendra, has named his daughter Akila, the name of Balumahendra’s wife.
For the national award winning director, his mentor’s wife is like his mother. He says: “Since it is not easy to call my daughter with that name often, she has a nickname Prarthana too,” he says.

Sasikumar's new film from April

Director – actor Sasikumar is not put down by the under performance of his much expected ‘Easan’. The film could find favours only with the city audience and the non-urban fans expected another ‘Subramanaipuram’ from Sasikumar.

But all that is past and Sasikumar is up for his next. He is all set to launch a film titled ‘Poralai’ under his Company Productions. It will be a reversal of roles this time as Sasikumar will act in the movie and his best friend Samuthirakani will direct.

Other leading actors confirmed so far are Allari Naresh and Ganja Karuppu. The leading ladies and other actors are being finalized.

Music will be by Taj Noor who made a sensational debut with ‘Vamsam’ last year. Three songs have already been composed and ready. The shooting of ‘Porali’ will begin in April and the official announcement will happen in a few days.

'Avan Ivan' completed

Bala is a director who will be in the news with whatever he does. The latest being that he has completed the shooting of ‘Avan Ivan’.
Purist Bala is known for his long schedules and time taken for perfection. 'Avan Ivan' was launched on January 25 last year and when it started Bala actually surprised everyone by saying that he will complete the film in record 90 days.
But Bala being Bala took his time and has finally wrapped up the shooting yesterday. Even by his scale it the fastest ever film of his.
The completion of ‘Avan Ivan’ is a relief not only to Bala. The major liberation is for Vishal who had been biting his nails for wanting to start his new film to be directed by Prabhu Deva. This new film was scheduled to start by December but delayed as Vishal was still with Bala in Theni.
‘Avan Ivan’ stars Arya and Vishal in daringly different roles sculpted by Bala. Janani Aiyar is the heroine. It is expected both the lead actors will get the break of their career with this film. ‘Avan Ivan’ is slated for release in April.

'Sri Ramarajyam' my last movie: Nayantara

South hottie Nayantara who is playing a devotional role of Sita in Bapu's Sriramarajyam announced that she will not act in movies after this film. Sources close to the actress say that her boyfriend actor Prabhu Deva asked Nayantara not to act in movies anymore after this film and hence she took the decision.
She also rubbished rumours that her relationship with Prabhu Deva came to an end. She clarified that things are absolutely fine between her and Prabhu Deva.
"Tamil actor Vijay asked me to play a role in Tamil version of 'Bodyguard'. But I refused because I am not going to act anymore. 'Sri Ramarajyam' is a movie I am proud of. I feel blessed to play the role of Sita who is the epitome of Indian woman. Besides, acting in Bapu's film and sharing screenspace with Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Balaiah is memorable. I am glad I am bidding farewell to film industry with Sita's role which has huge scope for acting" Nayantara said.

Siddique on Vijay’s rough patch

Vijay’s Kaavalan directed by Siddique is a huge success despite all the initial hiccups and the star once again proved that he can romance, create a laugh riot and emote with élan.

In an interview recently, Siddique said that he is very happy with the response Kaavalan has garnered and that he is going to remake it in Telugu too. It is noteworthy that Kaavalan itself is a remake of Siddique’s Malayalam film Bodyguard and it is being remade in Hindi too.

The director says that the biggest challenge about remaking a film in different languages is to make it suit to the mentality of the audience and also work on the different budgets that each industry offers. But he also says that there is scope for making the film better and can rectify the mistakes that have been made previously. Justifying this statement, Siddique says, “People who watched the Malayalam and the Tamil version tell me that the Tamil one is better.” He added that Vijay was going through a rough patch not because of lack of talent but because he did not get good roles to play.

The incredible role of Suriya in 'Maatraan'

You have heard of double roles, triple roles and even nano and deca roles played by our heroes in a film. Right from MGR to Karthi, multiple roles have always been a great source for mass entertainment.

But the role Suriya will be playing in the upcoming KV Anand directed film 'Maatraan' will surprise you to the hilt.

Sources reveal Suriya will be playing a unique role of a conjoined twin popularly known as Siamese twins, whose bodies are joined. Both bodies have to east, sleep and do every other jobs together. Oh what a role!

It takes all the guts of the mind to accept the role and our sincere admirations to Suriya for doing perhaps the most challenging role ever in Tamil cinema.

Rohini will release the Music of Raghuvaran

If you are under the notion that film artistes are fit only for acting and they don’t know anything else in life, you are grossly wrong. Many actors have many hidden talents in them apart from acting skills. Some deliberately show off to be in the news for some time while most others just keep it as their passion and enjoy doing them.
Kamal is also a poet as many would know. But how many of you know that Vikram is a fine photographer or Suriya is a fashion designer? Likewise there was an actor who is known for his trend setting performances is also a very passionate musician.
Raghuvaran had a great sense for music and the actor played the key board well. One of his ambitions was to launch his own musical album and he was composing tunes for it. Recently it was found that Raghuvaran had stored scores of tunes in his key board for that purpose.
To commemorate the actor musician, Raghuvaran's wife, actress Rohini is planning to release a musical album with the selected best tunes composed by the actor in his memory. When it happens that’s going to be a great tribute to one of the most versatile actors of Tamil film industry.

Actress weds at mass wedding ceremony

Navneet Kaur, the Punjabi lass, who played the heroine in Arasangam and Ambasamuthrathil Ambani, married her long time boyfriend and independent MLA Ravi Rana. It was not the usual gala wedding ceremony that most stars opt for but a mass wedding in which 3611 couples exchanged marriage vows.
The function was attended by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chauhan and his ministers and politicians apart from thousands of people from all walks of life. Navneet and Ravi’s parents, family and close friends were also at the venue to shower their blessings on the couple.

Vijay in ‘Sattappadi Kuttram’?

It’s an usual expectation that Vijay would make a special appearance when his father S A Chandrasekar directs a film. Now that the veteran filmmaker is busy with ‘Sattappadi Kuttram’, buzz is that the ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’ would play a guest role.
However, Chandrasekar evades a direct reply to this question. “I can’t say anything at this point of time. I can comment on this only after completing the movie,” says the director.
SAC, known for handling revolutionary themes, is remaking his yesteryear blockbuster ‘Sattam Oru Iruttarai’ as ‘Sattappadi Kuttram’. Sathyaraj, Seeman, Vikranth and Bhanu among others play lead roles.
“The film will come with a message to the society. Sathyaraj is giving his best while Seeman will be featured in the role of an advocate, who fights hard to ensure that wrongdoers get punishment as per law,” the director adds.

Happy Birthday STR

He is a man of many talents. Silambarasan aka STR, one real multi faceted artiste of Kollywood is celebrating his 27th birthday today and IndiaGlitz wishes him all the very best for great years ahead. His new year is going to be one his best as all the films lined up this year are eagerly awaited ones.
For a child artiste who started his career in 1987, the coming year will also be his silver jubilee year in films.  In an impressive career, Silambarasan has touched upon all trades of cinema. He is an actor, a script writer, a dialogue writer, a choreographer, a playback singer and what more? Perhaps all in one.
His never say die spirit is holding his flag aloft all these years. From his first film as a solo hero ‘Kadhal Azhivathillai’ to the next immediate release ‘Vaanam’, Simbu has proved he cannot be put down by external factors. Bouquets or Brickbats, Silamabrasan has learned to take them both with the same emotion. That’s shows how matured he has become over the years.
From a romantic boy in his first film Simbu has evolved trying many characters and proved he is worth the adulations he has been getting. The psychopath in ‘Manmadhan’, the orphaned gangster in ‘Thotti Jaya’, the flamboyant lover in ‘Vallavan’ and to cap it all the serene single-minded lover in ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ , all these characters have ensured that one just can’t ignore Silambarasan. After the good things happened with VTV, Silambarasan is setting his vision on higher things. His revolutionary ideas have always paid him rich dividends. The latest being the single number for ‘Vaanam’ that has become the new anthem for the lover boys in town.
In the upcoming films Vaanam, Podaa Podi, Vettai Mannan and Valiban, Silambarasan is sure to reveal many other hidden professional talents in him. All these films are on top of the minds only because of Silambarasan.
So “Where is the party tonight?” Simbu is said to have a quiet birthday this year without any revelry. But his very close friends are not going to let him stay that way. Sources say they may surprise him in the last minute with a gala bash.
As a child artiste in the movie ‘Samsara Sangeetham’, Silambarasan danced to a song singing “I am a little star, Aaaven Naan Super Star” more than twenty years ago. Looking back at his journey he has achieved what he aspired.

Complaints against Tapasee

The Aadukalam girl Tapasee has got into trouble with the Telugu actor-producer-director Mohan Babu. The actress was booked to star in a Mohan Babu’s film and had allotted her dates in January. But repeated calls to the lady when the shooting began yielded no response.
Sources in Tollywood say that Tapasee is busy with her other commitments and success in Aadukalam has opened several avenues for her to carve a niche in the tinsel town and this is one of the reasons for evading Mohan Babu’s film.
However, Tapasee has to face Mohan Babu’s wrath as he has already complained against the actress at the Producers’ Council and Filmstars’ Association.

Santhanam in 12 avatars for Singam Puli

Now comes another interesting piece of news for Jeeva fans. It is said that Singam Puli comedy man Santhanam will appear in 12 different avatars which also includes iconic figures MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, and T Rajendran. Well the news will surely generate much hype among fans as the movie is awaited this February 11th, 2011. This particular offering is a directorial venture by Sai Ramani and includes leading lady Divya Spandana , and actors Santhanam and Livingston contributing their support. The Jeeva starrer is being produced by S. Parthiban and S. Srinivasan.
A special movie for Jeeva as the flick has a lot of CG work in the offering which was a major reason for the delay in release apart from the fact that we will see a new dimension to Jeeva, well a ‘double dimension’ we reckon as he is playing a lawyer and fisherman.
That’s Jeeva 2 and Santhanam 12, a comical presence so to say.

Suriya to tell his side of ‘Nanban’ story

The dust has finally settled and ‘3 Idiots’ remake ‘Nanban’ has started shooting in Ooty. But the bad publicity the whole episode generated has hurt Suriya the most. Although there were some cold allegations leveled against Suriya for exiting ‘Nanban’, sources close to say Suriya is not to be blamed.

They say the charges against Suriya that he wanted an exorbitant salary and also the Telugu rights are not true. Suriya was unable to commit for ‘Nanban’ because he had ‘7am Arivu’ and ‘Maatran’ as priority films only because they were already launched. There is also a weird story doing rounds that Vijay wanted to get back on the project and so his best friend Suriya chose to leave.
To clear the air and settle things once for all Suriya is expected to call for a media briefing soon and explain his side of the story.

Bhanu hit by rumours

She made a decent debut in ‘Thamirabarani’ opposite Vishal and acquired the title ‘Junior Nayantara’. But luck was not in favour of Bhanu as she had to disappear from the limelight all of a sudden.
“I was initially puzzled as to why I was not getting offers despite being part of a hit movie. Only after sometime I realised that it was because of a rumour,” the ‘Azhagarmalai’ actress says.
Saying that some had spread a malicious gossip that she had married a man of her choice in Kerala and quit acting, Bhanu adds, “this false news has prevented acting offers from reaching me.”
“However, I am back in Kollywood now,” she further says. “I am currently playing an important role in ‘Sattapadi Kuttram’ (directed by S A Chandrasekar). Also, I am there in a special number in Ponnar Sankar (Prashanth-starrer).”

Billa-2 Is Not Shelved

‘Why worry when Vishnu has got the scripts and production schedules ready? Says his closer source while they respond to the rumors of ‘Billa-2’ is likely to be shelved with accordance to Vishnuvardhan’s Telugu film that is ready to get-go from March. Vishnuvardhan had completed working on the script of ‘Billa-2’ nearly before 5 months and was curiously waiting for Ajith Kumar’s call. The filmmaker and his technical crew is busy working on research of some well advanced technologies to be used in this movie. This has been the reason why Vishnuvardhan has chosen another cinematographer to work on his Telugu project with Pawan Kalyan in lead role. However, Yuvan Shankar Raja and Sreekar Prasad have been sustained for this untitled Telugu film.

According to the sources, Vishnuvardhan is expected to complete the Telugu movie as a quickie since Pawan Kalyan himself has lots of movies to be worked simultaneously. The actor is close on the heels of completing remake of ‘Love Aaj Kal’ following which he will shoot for Vishnuvardhan’s film, remake of ‘Dabangg’ and another movie based on the life of Jesus Christ.

Looks like, Vishnuvardhan will complete few schedules with Pawan Kalyan and start working on ‘Billa-2’ by end of April.
