Shriya no more in 'Rowthiram'?

No we don't mean that Shriya Saran is not a part of 'Rowthiram,' it's just that rumours are now doing the rounds that the character that Shriya Saran will play in this film, will lose her life in this action packed thriller and Jiiva will avenge her death.
'Rowthiram' is produced by Jiiva's father, RB Choudary and has Jiiva and Shirya Saran in the lead roles, with Prakash Raj and Jayaprakash essaying pivotal roles. The film has been directed by debutant Gokul and is gearing up for a release.
Although, we can't be sure, some birdies are claiming that Shriya will be killed by goons in this movie, whose death Jiiva will avenge. Shriya who will fall in love with Jiiva admiring his gutsy self, lands herself in trouble, and her last words to Jiiva are of encouragement asking him to carry on with his mission.
Well, whether this is really true or not, we can't be sure until the film hits the screens, but looks like 'Rowthiram' has a lot action in store, along with great performance scope for Shriya...

Karthi to woo Praneetha in 'Saguni'

Now that Karthi's wedding had taken place with much fanfare, the Sivakumars' are busy with the reception, following which the production work on Karthi's 'Saguni' will kick-start.
Shankar Dayal will wield the megaphone for 'Saguni,' and Dream Warrior Pictures will produce this political thriller. Karthi will be sporting a whole-new-look for this script that boasts off interesting twists.
Now, the Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that Praneetha, who has made her debut in Tamil through 'Udhayam' and referred to by a few as Kajal Agarwal's look-alike, is finalized to play heroine in this project! While many top-notch heroines were trying to get this role, Praneetha seems to have been the lucky one.
Although 'Udhayan' didn't prove lucky to the actress, she has managed to grab the attention of more Tamil film makers and if she makes a good mark through 'Saguni' she is definitely here to stay...

What's next for Suriya?

'Aaru,' 'Vel,' 'Singam' and going. Yes we are referring to the Suriya - Hari duo who have given us three blockbusters so far. With Hari's 'Venghai' starring Dhanush and Tamannah releasing this Friday, the director is geared up for his next venture, where he'll be teaming up with Suriya Sivakumar.
This untitled commercial will be produced by Gnanavel Raja, who also produced the duo's 'Singam' last year.
It is said that this film will be filled with action sequences that Tamil cinema has never seen, and Suriya will pull off some great stunts. The director, while speaking to a daily, was all praise for Suriya and Vikram as they always refuse to use a body double and put in all the effort to do their own stunts.
Suriya's who is done with Murugadoss's '7am Arivu' is busy with KV Anand's action-hriller 'Maatraan' where his character has some five dimensions. After which, he will begin work with Hari on this script, that will go on floors in 2012 and has Suriya playing a village youth.

Swathi: From slums to cities

Her character in 'Poraali', a Samuthirakani-directed and Sasikumar-starring film has undergone a sea change. As per the initial arrangement, 'Subramanyapuram' girl Swathi was about to play a slum-dweller.
However, her role has now been changed to that of a city resident and the Telugu-speaking actress is happy about both. "Because both the characters are interesting, meaty and challenging as well", she says.
Happy about working with Samuthirakani and Sasikumar again, after the super hit 'Subramanyapuram', Swathi says, "They are great human beings, good friends and thorough professionals".
Explaining as to why a three-year long break in Kollywood, she says, "Many Tamil offers came my way after Subramanyapuram. But frankly speaking, they were identical to the role I played in my debut movie".

Velayudham Goes to Goundamani's Sweet Home

Vijay’s ‘Velayudham’ is close on the heels of completion with final portions being shot across Pollachi and Kerala. The entire crew chose Valla Gundapuram situated near Pollachi as the shooting backdrop as it suited well for the script. Incidentally, the little paradisiacal place happens to be the native town of veteran comedy actor Goundamani.

Both actor Vijay and director Jayam Raja visited his home, where the actor’s mother still lives there. Few portions in the film were shot there and it was a pleasant experience for them. The residents of the region shared their precious moments with Vijay and Raja.

The duo felt it more interesting discussing more about the place and lifestyle of people over there.

Lawrence may direct Salman

Salman Khan's decision to turn towards regional cinema for ideas is paying off in rich dividends. His Ready opposite Asin which was the remake of a Telugu film with Genelia and Ram (It was remade in Tamil also as Uthamaputhiran with Dhanush and Genelia) is running to packed houses and smashing all kinds of box office records. The actor is keen to maintain this trend and is also remaking Kaavalan and telugu film Kick (Thillalangadi in Tamil).
Some years ago, when Salman's career was going through a low phase, he decided to remake Sethu in Hindi with Bhumika Chawla. This move turned the tide in his favor and there has been no looking back for the Bollywood superstar. And so his love affair with regional cinema continues to this day.
Salman has evinced a keen interest in Raghava Lawrence's Kanchana. This film is supposed to be a sequel to Muni and Lawrence in confident, the film will do well.

It is not Anushka or Shriya

Actress Pranitha made her debut in Tamil with Udhayan opposite Arulnidhi. She is very happy with the response she has been getting and says that everyone has only good things to say about her performance in the film. Pranitha has been hoping that the film will get her noticed and help her to land some good films.
It looks like Pranitha's prayers have been answered, because she is going to be Karthi's heroine in Saguni. Karthi's last film Siruthai was a smash hit, and he has been waiting patiently for a good script to follow it up. Debutant Shankar Dayal impressed him with Saguni and Karthi agreed to do it. There was talk that Shriya Saran or Anushka would be the heroine but Pranitha has been finalized.

Akshay and Salman in tug of war for Kamal 's hit film

Many fans would swear that Kamal Hassan's finest comedy film was the 1990 blockbuster, Michael Madana Kamarajan. The film was about the quadruplets, Michael, Madan, Kameswaran and Raju, who get separated at birth, and when their paths cross years later, there is a whole lot of wacky mayhem. Kamal Hassan did all four roles in the film and he did a fine job especially as Kameswaran with the pronounced and now famous Palghat Bhramin accent.
Cut to 2011 and Farah Khan as well as Priyadharshan are keen on a remake of MMKR. Farah wants to do the film with Salman Khan whereas Priyadharshan wants to work with Akshay Kumar. Kamal Hassan co-wrote and produced the film so it remains to be seen which camp manages to buy the rights from him first.

Hansika upset because people say that she does not know acting

Bhagyaraj says that time is important to win in cinema

S Muruganandam has produced a film titled Vaagai Sooda Vaa under the banner Village Theatres. Vimal, Iniya, Bhagyaraj, Thambi Ramaiah and Ponvannan are starring in this film. Om Prakash is handling the camera while M Gibran is composing the music for the lyrics penned by Vairamuthu, Arivumathi, Karthika Netha and Ve Ramasami.
A Sargunam has directed this film. The audio CD of this film was released yesterday. Speaking on this occasion, Bhagyaraj said, "Earlier I use to think that hard work is necessary to win in the cinema. But after some incidents, I have come to conclusion that time is important.
Santhanoo was the first one to get the opportunity to act in Kazhavani. But I don’t know what happened afterwards, they said Vimal is the hero of the film. Sargunam through someone told me not to get angry. Before this, Santhanoo was supposed to do the lead role in Subramaniapuram. But since he had some call sheet problems, he was not able t act in it. So Santhanoo did not get the opportunity to grab the good films. So I felt all this is because of time and fate. Selvaraghavan weds Geetanjali

Director Selvaraghavan married Geetanjali yesterday at the Le Royal Meridian Hotel in Chennai. The reception for the newlyweds will take place at 6:30 pm today at the Mayor Ramanathan Hall in Chennai.
Several film personalities including Suhasini, Chinni Jayanth, AM Rathinam, Prabhu, Ram Kumar, Mani Ratnam, and Aravind Samy were present at the wedding to bless the couple. Selva’s brother Dhanush, wife Aishwarya, sons Yatra and Linga were at the wedding.
It may be mentioned here that Selva was married to actress Sonia Agarwal but this marriage ended in divorce.

'Singam' to ban 'Singham'?

Suriya starrer 'Singam' that released last year was a blockbuster hit, running successfully in theatres for more than hundred days. The film saw Anushka Shetty cast opposite Suriya, and was directed by Hari.

As we had earlier reported to you, the movie is being remade in Hindi as 'Singham' and stars Ajay Devghn and Kajal Agarwal in the lead roles.

The Tamil flick was produced by Gnanavel Raja in an association with Reliance Big Pictures, and Gnanavel has now requested the Madras High Court for a ban on the release of the Hindi version that is all set to release on July 22.

He cited the following: "The Hindi remake rights were given to Reliance Big Pictures. Then, we came to an agreement with Reliance that when they sell the movie, 25% of the money should be given to us. The movie has now been sold for 80 crore rupees. They're to give us the 25% in it, meaning, 12. 5 crore rupees. But, without even paying up the money they planning to release the movie, and hence, we request a ban in the release of Singham".

The judge ordered that a notice should be sent to the producers of 'Singham' and demand a response from the latter, to take things further.

Kamal's heroine denies it all!

There has been a lot of speculation about the current hot couple - cricketer Zaheer Khan and dancer/actress Isha Sharwani. Rumors have been flying thick and fast suggesting that the couple is engaged and living together. Turns out  that it was the last straw for the actress and she slammed such careless media reports.
Isha said that there was absolutely no truth to these rumors and she denied having any such relationship with the cricketer. She said that such linkups are a part of celeb life but the whole thing has been hard on her parents and other loved ones. Her career is her first priority she says and talks are going on regarding a possible role for her in Vishwaroopam with Kamal Hassan.

Sun Pictures Chief Arrested

Chief executive officer of Sun Pictures, Hansraj Saxena, was on Sunday arrested by Chennai City Police on cheating charges based on a complaint by a film distributor over a dispute on Vishal-starrer 'Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai'.
According to T S Selvaraj of Kanda Films, he paid Rs 1.25 crore to Sun Pictures for distributing 'Theeratha Vilayattu PIllai'. However, the movie did not do well at the box office and Kanda Films faced huge losses.
When Selvaraj asked Sun Pictures to repay him Rs 82.5 lakh, he was threatned with dire consequences. Based on his complaint, the Police arrested Saxena in the Chennai airport on Sunday when he returned from Hyderabad.
Last year, a complaint was registered against Saxena for damage of a Chennai-based hotel. When journalists on Sunday asked Chennai City Police Commissioner J K Tripathy about this, he said the case was pending before court.

Karthi's Tamil wedding

It needs no explanation on Sivakumar's love for Tamil. And it was visible at the wedding of his youngest son Karthi Sivakumar in Coimbatore on Sunday, as the marriage was performed as per Tamil tradition and rituals.
The hymns were chanted in Tamil, figurines of Tamil God Lord Muruga with His Consorts were brought to the marriage hall, and the family members of Sivakumar, including Suriya and Jyothika, were dressed as per Tamil tradition.
Relatives of the actor's family from in and around Coimbatore attended the wedding in large numbers and this made the Sivakumars extremely happy. "This is a memorable occasion for us," said a Coimbatore native, who is a relative to Karthi.
Equally elated were the relatives of the bride, Ranjini. One of her uncles said, "She is a nice girl and is a perfect fit for Sivakumar's family. We are happy that she has married Karthi, who too is a native of Kongu land."

Sameera not worried

Sameera Reddy has said that she is not worried about acting in Gautham Vasudev Menon's last directorial venture 'Nadunisi Naaygal', a film which gave raise to many an eyebrow for its 'controversial content'.
"I did the role just for Gautham Menon. I don't have any regrets about it," said the actress from Andhra Pradesh, whose earlier venture with the director, the Suriya-starrer 'Vaaranam Aayiram', was a good hit.
Currently part of two Tamil films, Lingusamy's 'Vettai' and Prabhudeva's �'Prabhakaran', Sameera says, "I am sharing the screen space with both the stars of Avan Ivan, Vishal and Arya, in Prabhakaran and Vettai respectively."
Happy about bagging two meaty roles in Kollywood, she says, "I believe this year is going to be so memorable for me in Tamil." Meanwhile, Sameera is busy supervising the construction work of her new house in Mumbai.
