Amala joins Twitter to beat the fakes

Amala Paul is the latest from Kollywood to join social networking site – Twitter.
The actress reportedly created a profile on Twitter, as soon as she came across few fake profiles in her name.

There were four fakes profiles operating under her name dishing out various comments on world matters which she could not even fathom. To stop the menace of fake profiles, Amala was forced to join the social networking site.
Speaking to US, Amala said: “The fake was interacting with my fans and friends and using various quotes of mine from old interviews. It got to a point where people called me up to clarify things that I have not even thought of. The best way to counter the fakes is by creating your own account and tweeting .”
Finally Amala herself tweeted : “Atlast I have created a twitter id and joining the list…hmmm feels good ..so guys its real me start following me on @Amala_ams ”

Kolaveri di in Chicago Public Radio...

I'm a regular reader of your site. I'm sending news for the second time to behindwoods. I normally listen to FM radio while driving in car. I live in Chicago, IL but i am from Chennai. Today I listened about 3 movies Kolaveri songs dicsussion in the FM PRI (Public Radio International) - which happens to come in NPR ( National Public Radio) in Chicago FM.

I'm attaching the discussion which reporter from Calculata, India with NPR in Chicago, IL. I recorded using my Blackberry Phone. I wanted others to enjoy this conversation.

I am here because of my mass image : STR

There’s never a dull moment with Silambarasan. He’s witty and at all times, he’s engaging.  It’s heartening to meet politically incorrect actors like him.

That’s why his friends adore him and without much ado we love STR. Sridevi Sreedhar in a candid conversation with the young superstar in Hyderabad, where he is shooting for his first endorsement. Excerpts
It must be exciting to get back to your forte, hardcore action stuff in Osthi?
That’s true. I haven’t given so much, for a film.  I was switched off from everyone including my family and friends. I knew right from the beginning that there was no fooling around (laughs), while doing Osthi.
Fooling around with Dharani or the film?
Doing Dabangg remake is no joke as Salman has already made the film a huge hit with his scorching screen presence and I had to live up to people’s expectations. As we started the shoot, I knew that I had a huge responsibly on my shoulders and I completely surrendered to my character.
Will you be compared to Salman?
No one can do a better job than me! Okay, Okay I’m just joking. Salman brought his approach to the role and I have brought mine. So there should be no comparisons.
Did you plan to have a body like this?
Not at all.. Maybe, if I knew that I had to show my body, I would have had second thoughts to accept the film. My theory was that –‘A star is a star! No matter what body you have’.
But Osthi completely changed my attitude and I decided to work hard to get this body. I realised that Sonu Sood who plays the villain is powerful and he takes off his shirt and shows his body in the climax. I had to look more powerful than him to make the scene convincing, I had to get that fab abs and a perfect body.
A lot of people think that after earning the Mr Nice Guy image in films like Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya and Vaanam, why did you have to return to doing a mass masala film?
I’m here because of my mass image and no one can take it away from me. And how long can I do such roles? A VTV or Vaanam comes once in a blue moon and as a hero I have to do films in different genres to sustain at the top.  I saw Dabangg and thought that the role was perfect for me. And when Dharani was roped in to direct the film, I was relieved. He knew  his job and the film was safe in his hands.
You got along well with Dharani?
I get along well with everyone (laughs) , and Dharani was no different. He is a great person to work with, a person who knows the pulse of mass audiences. He has made the film racy and entertaining.
Among the songs which is your favourite?
Kalasala is visually stunning and Neduvali is mass. But Pondati song is my favourite, it’s cute and I’m sure that girls and women will love it.
Reportedly, do you have problems with Dhanush ?
Can there be something else besides being enemies and friends? To become friends you need to know each other and ditto to become enemies.  We hardly meet. Why would I have a problem with Dhanush or anyone one else? I don’t not cross his path and as long as he doesn’t cross mine, where is the problem?  Media and people around, create this imaginary rift because of various reasons.
Interestingly, Richa the heroine of Osthi was working simultaneously with both of you at the same time?
Richa is a true professional and she has done a good job in Osthi. That’s all I know about it (smiles).
How is your first endorsement shoot going?
I am enjoying it. It’s very different from my film shoots and I have no time to breathe. The entire crew is from Mumbai and they are all professional people. I’ll be back in Chennai for the release of Osthi.

Speed Breaker for Raja Pattai

Vikram’s ‘Raja Pattai’ has been passing through various hurdles and here comes another one. Directed by Susintheeran and earlier produced by Ramesh of Kanagarathna Movies, the film is close on the heels of completion. Due to some legal issues with Ramesh, the production was undertaken by PVP Cinemas.

It was announced that Gemini Film Circuit will be releasing the film all across the world with more prints. But on the spur of moment, there seems to have been a sudden change. Gemini Film Circuit has now walked out of the project due to unknown reasons. The film will now get marketed and released by PVP Cinemas. It was expected that Gemini will release the movie in theatres that will have its other project Nanban hitting screens.

Now it looks like the producers of PVP Cinemas have to go for a rapid process in marketing the film.

Gautham Menon Says, 'A R Rahman? That's Surprise'

There were news that Gautham Menon had an idea to sign a new music composer for this film. Then there were news that A R Rahman will be composing music for this film. Then again, it was understood that A R Rahman refrained himself from this film since he was very busy in other projects.

Now at this juncture, Gautham Menon has stated, “I have not mentioned anywhere in the advertisement of Nee Thane En Ponvasantham that who the music composer of this film was. I have mentioned about only certain cast and crew. I have not mentioned about the music composer so far in any advertisement. But who is the music composer of this film is a surprise. There is no truth in the news that A R Rahman will not compose music for my films.”

Jeeva, Samantha and Santhanam are acting in the film titled Nee Thane En Ponvasantham directed by Gautham Menon. This film is being produced under the banner Photon Kathas in association with R S Infotainment. This film is being made in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously. The posters of this film had very good response when this film was launched.

'3 Idiots' goes international

The eye-opener movie which impressed one and all nationwide will soon be seen on an international scale...
Talks are that Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 2009 blockbuster '3 Idiots' is going to have a Hollywood remake. According the producer they are discussing the deal for the remake with three studios in Hollywood and one company in Italy. As matter of fact, '3 Idiots' is releasing next week in China and surprisingly, nearly 900 prints! Considering it to be first for a Hindi film to release so many prints in China, Vidhu added further, "It is also being adapted into a stage musical in Taiwan. The film has already made about USD 3 million dollars in Hong Kong."

Kolaveri song was scored by Anirudh, a newbie, and this song will feature in 3, a film that stars Dhanush and Shruti Haasan. Aishwarya Dhanush will make her directorial debut with this film.

AR Rahman unable to oblige Gautham

AR Rahman was supposed to do the music for Neethane En Ponvasantham, the trilingual directed by Gautham Menon and starring Jiiva and Samantha in the Tamil version. However, things have not worked out as AR Rahman is a very busy man nowadays and in demand across the globe.
So Harris Jeyaraj will team up once again with Gautham Menon for this film. They have a great track record with super hits like Vaaranam Aayiram, Kaakha Kaakha, Minnale etc. Fans of the duo will be thrilled to hear this news once it is made official. Meanwhile, AR Rahman has promised to do Yohan Adhyayam Ondru for Gautham Menon.

The song Papparappa will be released on December 12th in an official function. Radio Mirchi will be the first to air it and then the song will be released on YouTube.
Madhavan has said that the song will recapture the magic of Theradi Veedhiyil from Run which was also directed by Lingusamy and went on to become a super hit. The video will feature Madhavan, Arya, Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul.

Aamir Khan for 'Nanban' on Dec 14

Following ‘Velayudham’, Vijay’s fever continues with Nanban and it’s gonna be bigger and greater now. The reason is that it carries such big brands like Gemini Film Circuit, Shankar, Harris Jayaraj, Jeeva, Ileana and more. The audio CD of this film is being released on 14th December and the film is being released worldwide on 14thJanuary.

Richa Refuses to Act in Tamil Remake

The Tamil film Thiruttu Payale which had Jeevan and Sonia in the lead roles was directed by Susi Ganeshan. He had decided to remake this film in Hindi. Neil Nithin Mukesh is donning the lead role in this film. It was earlier mentioned that Richa Gangopadhyay would be signed up for the role enacted by Sonia Agarwal in female lead character.

But now she has backed off from the film saying that it’s mainly due to call sheet issues. Says Richa: “Initially I was happy to take up the project but ‘scheduling’ turned out to be a major constraint. I have been working in couple of Telugu projects and I wasn’t sure whether I can make up for a continuous shooting schedule of 30-days.”

Selvaraghavan says that he has a story ready for Vijay and Ajith to share the screen

Director Selvaraghavan has directed the recently released Mayakkam Enna which had Dhanush and Richa in the lead roles.
This film is doing very well at the box in spite of mixed reviews. Selvaraghavan had recently mentioned that he has already readied a story which can have Vijay and Ajith in the lead roles. Selvaraghavan while speaking to the media said, " Many people appreciated me after seeing Mayakkam Enna. As far as I am concerned I am interested in directing different genre of films instead the usual commercial films. I don’t have any difference of opinion with Yuvan Shankar Raja. Very soon we both will be working together. Many are asking me that when I am going to direct Vijay and Ajith. I have decided to cast both of them in my film. The script for that film is ready.
My next film will be Erandam Ulagam which will have Arya and Anushka in the lead roles. Apart from this I have scripts for two thriller films. I will be commencing the Part 2 of Aayirathil Oruvan next year."

Surya and Venkat Prabhu’s film official announcement Soon

Some months ago it was reported that Venkat Prabu will celebrate the triumph of Mankatha and start the movie for Sona. But this could not happen due to various reasons.
Now there is a buzz that VP is on the verge of making a film on bilingual, Tamil and Telugu.
The film is the product from Studio Green and may have Surya in the lead role. However, neither Surya nor VP confirmed this. Since the production house is the family circle of Surya it was assumed. VP is to finish the script first and get the consent from Surya, who is currently busy completing Maatraan. VP revealed that the film will have the elements of action, romance, sentiment and above all humor. As usual, his cousin Yuvan Shankar Raja will score the music.
This could be a good exercise after Mounam Pesiyathe, Nandha, Vel for Surya from Yuvan. It is also said that Trisha or Anushka will be approached for this film. We have to wait for some more time till everything goes on official note.

The Kolaveri Chronicles

As the national television scooped it up, further catapulting it into the drawing rooms of people who have not yet heard of Facebook or are privy to the phenomenon of a lanky young man crooning ‘Why this Kolaveri di?’, a north Indian friend asked me what kolaveri means. He has another barrage of questions. Is it a Tamil song? (Tanglish has obviously confused him.) And a whole lot of things about Dhanush and his lineage (for one, about the fact that he is the superstar Rajini’s son in law). That besides, he loved the song.

He only has one gripe. He can’t download the song because the only thing available is the video version that is being shared like a zillion times over and over again. But the media is being generous enough to force that song down his throat at least a few times a day. He gets his dose. Curiously, another one of my friends said she hated it. Only to throw in the towel a little later – be it the bombardment of the song on her from all angles or just the catchiness of it. She confessed to me that ‘she can’t stop humming it.’

But then, everybody loves it. Don’t they? Kolaveri stole the limelight from right under the nose of Sheelas and Chammak Challos, despite the fact that there are no explosive item-girls present in it and that there was not even a proper video to boast of. A Wikipedia entry, more than 11 million views in Youtube and the same amount of shares in Facebook, trending topic on Twitter for many days and even an MTV premiere (a first for MTV that has never telecast Tamil songs before), Dhanush couldn’t have asked for more ways to promote his movie 3.

The last we heard a Tamil song go viral (all over India) was Vijay’s Appadi Podu for the movie Gilli (talking of which, the Appadi Podu song is recently officially acquired by Sonu Sood to be featured in his production venture and Vidyasagar is composing the tune for Hindi). That happened before the advent of Facebook and other social networking sites so the success was sort of muted unlike Kolaveri. And oh, there is even a Carnatic version of the song now. That notwithstanding the fact that there are numerous other versions floating around in the cyberspace universe. One that is particularly funny is that of a Punjabi girl singing the song. Kolaveri is also finding place in common culture too. A video, featuring the Sharad Pawar slap incident with Kolaveri song playing in the background is almost going viral.

TechZone, the company that provides content for leading Indian network operators including Airtel, Reliance and DoCoMo announced that the song has been already downloaded 20,000 times in the past five days. You can set it as your caller tune or download it on your mobile based on the standard download charges of your operator.

The spunky Tanglish lyrics and the tune have also found mention in the tweets by folks from Bollywood including Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Neha Dhupia and Shreya Ghoshal. Anirudh, who tuned it up, might have already received a few calls from prospective Bollywood producers.

Dhanush has unwittingly kicked off a topic on tapping the potential of social networking sites to promote a movie. A marketing tactic that is sure going to be studied in the days to come: even adopted by other filmmakers probably. What Kolaveri did to the movie is kind of lasting. The national channels that telecast the uprising of the song on cyberspace are going to carry news about the movie’s release when it’s out. I can already see what the ticker would read: ‘Kolaveri on big screen.’ That’s more than the required thrust for the movie’s opening.

The huge onus of creating a music video, complementing the success of the song with its working video, now lies with the 3 crew. Whether they decide to incorporate it in the film or make it a title song, they will have too many tongues wagging when the official version of the song is released.

Yes, we all know that the attention is ephemeral. The Mumbai flash mob video, of around 200 students, dancing to the title track of Rang De Basanti in the well choreographed video is slowly scrambling its way to reach kolaveri. Will it make kolaveri pale in comparison? To quote a cliché: only time will tell. Whoever said fame is short-lived.

As for my friend, I told him he can download the song on his mobile. Or even set it as his caller tune.

Studio Green Gets Venkat Prabhu

Silambarasan’s upcoming projects are on the full spree now. Having wrapped up with ‘Osthe’, the actor has now started shooting for his next project ‘Vettai Mannan’ that has already completed the first schedule. Plans are done to complete the shooting at a single stretch as his other film ‘Vada Chennai’ will go on floors from February.

Shedding lights on the film, producer Dayanidhi Azhagiri said, “It’s the unwritten story, untold history of the organized crime syndicate of North Chennai.”

Well, the story about Vettai Mannan is about the unexplored territories of assassins. But the closer sources claim that there aren’t any similarities between these films and they’re completely based on different themes.

Initially there were rumours that Sandhya was in love with Prithviraj. Now there are rumours that Sandhya is deeply in love with Santhanoo. When asked her about these continuous rumours, she said, " I always never wanted to get trapped in number one competition.

There is always a small world for me in the cinema industry. I am very clear in that. Though I have acted in hit films, I am very sad that I am not able to pair with top heroes. In between there are rumours that I am in love with Santhanoo.
There is nothing like that. Some people are spreading rumours that my parents are searching a bridegroom for me and because of this I am not accepting new films. My parents will announce about my marriage at the appropriate time. Now I am currently concentrating in cinema only."

Javed Akhtar criticizes Dhanush's work

Javed Akhtar, the famous lyricist and award - winning poet has criticized Kolaveri di strongly. He said the music, singing, and especially the lyrics were substandard. The lyricist said that nowadays thanks to aggressive marketing even average fare becomes insanely popular.
Akhtar added that quality should be given precedence over all else and Kolaveri di lacks quality. Dhanush has been a good sport about the criticism and has taken it in his stride. He is willing to accept both the bouquets and the brickbats.

Aishwarya Dhanush on song

Aishwariya Dhanush is all set to direct a film titled 3 with her husband Dhanush playing the lead.
While the film, 3, has been making headlines thanks to its single, why this kolaveri di, Aishwariya, who was an assistant director in ‘Baba’ and ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’, has been coming in for a lot of attention herself.

The film is produced by Dhanush’s father, Kasturi Raja, and also stars Shruti Hassan.
People can expect a new Shruti, a role she has never played before, promises the director.
As for the storyline, Aishwariya wants to keep people guessing. ‘It is an emotionally charged romantic movie that every person can relate to,’ is all she says.

Simbu’s Osthi release put on hold

Simbu’s Osthi which was expected to release on Dec 8 will get delayed it seems. Sun pictures who bought the satellite rights of Simbu’s Osthi is the reason for the problems caused.
The Tamilnadu Theatre Owners Association has decided not to buy and distribute movies produced by Sun Pictures team. The reason for protesting against against Sun Pictures is that they are delaying in paying the deposit funds of 2.5crores for screening films produced by them.

Till now Sun pictures didn’t settle the money, So the Association is so upset with them. After knowing this issues, the Osthi team have handovered the satellite rights to Sun pictures.
So the association has issued a red card on the film it seems. If things don’t go smoothly, then Osthi will be put on for a long hold till problem solves.

Poraali Movie Review

Starring: Sasi Kumar, Swathi, Allari Naresh, Kancha Karuppu Direction: SamuthirakaniMusic: Sundar C BabuProduction: Company Production

The Samudirakani-Sasikumar teamwork is back again with the former wielding the baton and the latter applying the greasepaint in Company Productions Poraali. This combination always stirs up expectations, thanks to their appreciated previous outings Subramaniapuram, Nadodigal and Easan.
The arc of Poraali springs from Aristotle’s words-Man is a social animal. And director Samudirakani goes on to say it is an uphill task to carry on in this world which is overcrowded with animals in the guise of humans. And hence people who manage to struggle and survive in such a scenario are indeed the ‘Poraali’s or Warriors.
In Poraali, Samudirakani has dichotomized his film’s setting as urban for first half and rural for the second half. The story completely rests on Sasikumar’s shoulders whose fiery and powerful eyes do the major talking for him. With flowing mane on his shoulders and riding on twin horses, the director/actor/producer crafts a neat performance.
Allari Naresh provides the appropriate foil and when Ganja Karuppu joins him, the humor quotient works well. Notable example is the scene when Swati’s sister curses them both for the food that has been regularly supplied to them did not serve its purpose. Ganja Karuppu’s antics belong to the harmless category with dialogues like ‘Eppavo kedaikkara paal govaa vida ippa kedaikkara pepperminte thevalai’ generating a smile.
Nivedha, the new find makes you notice, Swati Reddy is apt but it is Vasundhara who scores well in a very small role. There are also Sasi-Kani’s regulars like Jayaprakash, Namo Narayana and others. The perpetual drinker who helps Sasikumar in tricky situations is effective and Parotta Suri with a recurring statement annoys mostly.
Poraali opens up majestically with Sasikumar riding on horses followed by a gripping chase and murder sequence. However this situation goes unexplained till the end leaving the audience clueless about its inclusion. The first half moves fairly at a uniform pace and there are minor twists that keep the narration going. The optimistic feel that is being conveyed is also something that is praiseworthy.
Comedy works in tandem with the narration which lightens up the mood most of the time. Samudirakani has shown the diverse nature of human beings through individuals residing in different portions in a lower middle class house.
However with the advent of second half and the flash back sequences, director struggles to keep his narration tight. This is majorly due to a very lengthy action sequences, some of them even gory and the maker loses his grip over his audience. To add to the woes, the sequences at the asylum are not for faint hearts and are quite disturbing. If these shots have been pruned, the effect could have been better.
There are many characters in Sasikumar’s household and it takes a while to get clarity on their relationships. Some scenes do give a docu feel and when Sasikumar continues to mouth preachy dialogues, a sense of tedium sets in. There may not be many people who could relate to such an issue in today’s setting.
Sundar C Babu’s music is just about ordinary and so are the other technical departments of the film. It would have been an engaging flick had the director tightened his screen play in the second half. All the same, Kani and Sasi need to be appreciated for their earnest attempt.
Verdict: This earnest Poraali needed more power.

Time website reports on India's favourite song Kolaveri

Yesterday, Why This Kolaveri Di became a YouTube crorepati. Today, the Time Magazine website has published a story on the song "India just can't stop listening."

As Dhanush's crazy song with the catchy tune remains a YouTube favourite, comes more recognition. The website quotes the BBC to report on the nonsensical, semi-English music video that's viral in India.

Yesterday, Anirudh Ravichander, the young musician who composed the song sung by Dhanush for his new film 3, posted: "1 crore and 10 lakhs !:) have no words to thank you all and the almighty!"

Earlier, Dhanush composed another jingle to thank fans for making Why this Kolaveri Di an international hit. "Wellu I'm happy nowu , cos u guysu enjoyingu my movie and performancu. Thanksu. Lovvu you , god blessu," he posted , in the same colloquial style of the song.

Meanwhile, Why This Kolaveri Di has been feeling the love of Bollywood in no small measure.

"Just heard Kolaveri Di after much talk on it ... it's so original and catchy ..congrats Dhanush and Aishwarya (Rajni's daughter) .. love," legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan had posted on Twitter, few days ago.

Dhanush, thanked Bachchan, saying: "It's a great honour to get a tweet from Big B, very kind of him. I dedicate the tweet to all you guys who made kolaveri this big. Love you guys. God bless."

Dhanush's wife Aishwarya, who is also the daughter of superstar Rajinikanth and the director of 3, thanked Big B: "Thank u so much @SrBachchan uncle..truly means a lot when u say it .." Other stars such as Karan Johar, Bipasha Basu and Shahid Kapoor have also posted tweets on their love for the song.

Why this Kolaveri Di has been in covered by other international media too. 'Why This Kolaveri Di': India's Latest Viral Hit, The Huffington Post reported on Tuesday.

A promo of this song was leaked on the internet and it instantly became viral on social networking sites for its quirky "Tanglish" lyrics and catchy head-bobbing tune.

Vidya Balan's The Dirty Picture banned in Pakistan

Yet another Indian film has hit a dead-end in Pakistan. The country’s censor board has banned Vidya Balan-starrer The Dirty Picture (TDP) from being screened in their country, apparently deeming it unsuitable for theatrical exhibition because of its ‘subject matter and bold
scenes.’

Pakistan’s ‘no show’ stance for TDP came after the film’s overseas distributors informed makers that the Pakistan Censor Board refused to clear the film.

“It’s a very hypocritical step. Even if the censors ban it from releasing on the big screen, they can’t stop people from watching it on pirated DVDs. Since Pakistani films aren’t anywhere close to the popularity of Bollywood, they should allow our films to run in theatres for their own good,” says a senior official involved with a Bollywood marketing firm.

When contacted, Tanuj Garg, CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures (producers of TDP) confirms: “Our overseas distributor informed us about the film being rejected by the Pakistan censors.
