Hollywood Corner: Hollywood blockbuster all set to break records
Even The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon hasn't been able to jolt The Dark Knight from its top spot at the U.S. box office. If The Dark Knight continues to hold its number one position for two more weeks, it could even beat Titanic's all time $600 million record. The new Batman movie has so far earned an estimated $395 million in the U.S.
alone, and is expected to cross the $400 million milestone this week.
The Mummy still took in 42.5 on its opening weekend, putting its hero Brendan Fraser in the unique position of being the star of two top grossing movies back to back: earlier his Journey to the Center of the Earth, the Jules Verne fantasy classic redone in 3-D, opened at $20 million.
And poor X-Files. Even in its second weekend it is only ninth at the B.O. with $3.4 million. It could earn the title of the summer's biggest bomb, having taken in only $17 million.
