6th Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF 2008) inaugurated


happening incident of Chennai Film Festival (CIFF 2008) was inaugurated yesterday by Local Administration M.K. Stalin. Organized by the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation in collaboration with government of Tamilnadu began yesterday with the screening of the French film Bad Faith at 10.30 am in Woodlands theatre. M.K. Stalin while inaugurating the festival said a grant of Rs.25 lakh has been provided this year towards the film festival. Over 120 films from 35 countries will be screened at the festival. Mirush (Norway), An Egyptian story (Egypt), The Tour (Serbia), Aai Kot Nai (Assamese) were screened at Woodlands, Woodlands Symphony and South Indian Film Chamber theatres.
Tamil films such as ‘Anjathe,’ ‘Subramanyapuram,’ ‘Poo’ and ‘Kancheevaram’ would also be screened. Movies from Egypt would be screened for the first time. Information Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, Acting Consul-General U.S. Consulate General Frederick J Kaplan, Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) chairman S.Kannan, CIFF’s vice-chairman S.Ve.Shekher, CIFF’s artistic director E.Thangaraj, Director of Alliance Francaise of Madras Marie Paule Serre, Information and Public Relations director A.C.Mohandoss, director of INKO Centre Rathi Jafer participated and spoke. The function was followed by screening of Kazakhstan film ‘Tulpan.’
