'Saroja' celebrates 100 days

Venkat Prabhu's second venture 'Saroja' proved everyone that the blockbuster hit 'Chennai -28' was no flash in the pan. Brilliant execution of a serious plot commingled with humorous flavor became the movie's USP. The Hollywood style of hiring an all new cast to bring in realism was bought to Tamil cinema by the filmmaker. While Chennai -28 delved into the life of a group of youngsters, Saroja is a tale of four friends who land themselves in trouble.

A laudable handshake could be given for director Venkat Prabhu for doing a perfect job of entertaining the audience. Fun, frolic and mayhem were abundant which glued the people to their seats. Adding to the movie's splendor, is the spectacular and spell binding background musical by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Sakthi Saravanan's cinematography and Praveen K. L and Srikanth N. B's editing work escalated the movie to new heights.
Apart from these technical aspects, innovative thoughts of creativity were speckled throughout the flick. Like casting all stars of Chennai -28 in trivial roles, guest appearance of producer, executive producer, assistant, cameraman et al, was new to Tamil cinema as we were used only to the cliched appearance of directors on screen. Veteran actors Prakash Raj and Jayaram had worthy roles to perform in the movie.
Standing tall in this list is Premji's one more punch line 'Evalavo Pannitom….' which still lingers in the mind of audiences. Mirchi Siva's way of delivering comical dialogues tickled the funny bone which is a great addition. With a bumper opening, the movie was widely appreciated by film goers and critics alike. 'Saroja' completes a successful screening of 100 days today.
