Ilayaraja’s music may not be remixed anymore


Agi Music has acquired the entire rights of all of maestro Ilayaraja’s works before the year 2000. The rights include broadcasting rights, synchronization usages, mechanical usages, mobile content and the like. Announcing this deal, Mr. Agilan, CEO, Agi Music said, “We would like to inform that Agi Music is the only sole licensee for Ilayaraja’s contents in all formats including digital, MP3, ring tones, new media and others as well. Agi Music is representing him and administrating his composition for entire world including India, Malaysia and Singapore. Agi Music is also a member of Music Authors Copyright Protection (MACP) in Malaysia, which are the international representative and licensee for public performance usage of Ilayaraja’s work especially in TV Channels, Radio Channels and Concerts.” Ilayaraja has also issued a statement in which he had advised one and all against using his songs in their films as background scores and remixes. He also makes it clear that those using his song must have a license from Agi Music.
