Aadukalam steals limelight, wins 5 National Awards

It was a red letter day for the Tamil film industry, as it went on to win 14 National Awards. Vetrimaran's Aadukalam had a lion's share, which won six awards for various categories. Thenmerkku Paruvakkatru, Endhiran, Namma Gramam and Mynaa are the other movies, which brought honours to the Kollywood. Srilankan actor VIS Jayaraman received Special Jury Award for his negative role in Dhanush starrer film.

The awards jury headed by Bollywood filmmaker J P Dutta announced the 58th National Film Awards yesterday. The Tamil film industry and Marathi film industry, which bagged 10 National Awards, swept the top honours. While the Malayalam film industry and Kannada film industry got four, Bollywood was pushed below, as it could only win two awards,

Best Lyricist – Vairamuthu
Best Special Effects - V Srinivas Mohan
Best Production Design - Sabu Cyril
Best Costume Designer - Indrans Jayan
