Vijay: From Madrasapattinam to Bollywood

Director Vijay, it seems, is not ready to wait till the release of ‘Madrasapattinam’ to start his next project. For that matter, not just one film, he has started simultaneously working on two movies.
While one of the films will announce his arrival in Bollywood as a filmmaker, he is donning the avatar of a script writer for the other venture, which would be directed by popular editor Antony.
“Script for my Hindi debut is ready and it will have either Imran Khan or Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. It will be a ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ kind of a movie. I have also finished writing script for Editor Antony’s directorial venture,” Vijay says.
On ‘Madrsapattinam’, which is hitting screens in less than 48 hours, he says, “We did immense research before starting the film. Thanks to the support from producer Kalpathi S Aghoram and other team members, the movie has come out well. It is for the audience to decide the rest.”

'Kavalar Kudiyiruppu' is now 'Kadhalar Kudiyiruppu'

Director A M R Ramesh of 'Kuppi' fame has opted for a name change for his forthcoming venture 'Kavalar Kudiyiruppu'. He has now christened the film as 'Kadhalar Kudiyiruppu'.
"Since the title ‘Kadhalar Kudiyiruppu’ sounded more apt for the movie than the earlier one, I have renamed it now. The film is getting ready for release," the filmmaker said.
On the film, he said, "Unlike ‘Kuppi’, we have added some commercial elements in this movie. But they would be part of the script. Telugu actor Anish Tejeshwar and Shruthi are doing the lead roles."
James Vasanthan is scoring the music. "He (James) had turned down nearly 30 offers after ‘Subramaniapuram’, because he wishes to score music only for meaningful films. I was glad that he agreed to do my film as soon as he heard the script," said Ramesh.
A gold medalist from the film institute in Chennai, Ramesh said, "I want my films to be entertaining and at the same time make the audience think."

Realms of Comedy Kings in Kollywood

It has been happening over the ancient period of Tamil Cinema of where the comedy actors made their endeavoring journeys as heroes. On the button, it all started from the days of veteran actor N.S. Krishnan as he successful made his appearance as onscreen hero hop-skipping from his comedy roles.

Off the late, our grandparents wholeheartedly appreciated Nagesh’s prominences as lead characters in ‘Server Sundaram’, ‘Neer Kumili’ and ‘Ethir Neechal’ incredulously elevated him to greater standards. And then came, the all-time comedy duo Goundamani-Senthil, who played major roles and resulted in the success of many films that even didn’t carry well known actors. The modern phase has witnessed the emerging of various comedy actors making the way to the epitome of success as heroes.

Actors Vivek, Vadivelu, Santhanam, Ganja Karuppu and Karunas have already made their stupendous shows as heroes and won the hearts of millions.

Vivek: The actor’s debut film ‘Solli Adippaen’ is still under wraps and is unveiled due to some constraints. But somehow, the actor has got himself a credit over becoming a hero in spite of that film being unreleased.

Vadivelu: Two films based on unique themes made his career so best. ‘Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi’ and ‘Indiralogathil Na Azhagappan’ got him innumerable praises from all ends. Though, he wasn’t offered with lead roles in films ‘Winner’ and ‘Giri’, the film’s result doubtlessly succeeded with his show.

Santhanam and Ganja Karuppu: This duo played the lead role in ‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’ that was loosely based on Hollywood’s ‘Bruce Almighty’. Apart from making comedies, they had something to deliver emoting to various extents.

Karunas: Amongst all these actors, Karunas leads the race as both his films ‘Dindukal Saarathy’ and ‘Ambasamudaram Ambani’ has impressed the universal audiences. His very nature of choosing socio-commercial themes gets him closely related with the audiences.

Subject makes the film more at its best and the way it’s presented matters a lot than the star-values. Of course, these actors have proved this mantra so ardently with their earnest works and let’s wish them continue working on the same tactics

Lakshmi Rai feels good for MS Dhoni’s wedding

Relieved a lot that Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has tied the knot is Lakshmi Rai. The actress, who has been often linked with the cricketer, says she is happy that her “good friend” has entered the wedlock with his childhood friend Sakshi Singh Rawat.“I knew long back that Dhoni was seeing Sakshi. My son is too young: Rahman

A R Rahman has reacted to reports which suggested that his six-year- old son Ameen will soon join the musical bandwagon, thanks to his lending voice to a song in the Hollywood movie ‘Couples Retreat’.
“I can’t say anything right now. Because nothing is in our hands. We can only plan things but the final decision lies with the Almighty. Also, Ameen is too young and this is not the right age to make any decision,” the music maestro says.
The Oscar-Grammy winner adds: “It all depends on the situation when he grows up. But I am happy that he is showing keen interest on music at this very young age. Let’s see what happens in future.”
Saying that he has been getting a number of offers from Hollywood, the Mozart of Madras however says he is unable to take anything thanks to the lack of time due to the Jai Ho world tour. “So I have postponed that for some time,” he adds.

‘Kaavalkaran’ becomes ‘Kaaval Kadhal’

The title of Vijay’s forthcoming film, which is a remake of Malayalam hit ‘Bodyguard’, is not ‘Kaavalkaran’ as guessed by many. The movie directed by Siddique has been named ‘Kaaval Kaadhal’.
And this has been confirmed by no lesser person than Asin, who is the heroine of the film. “A major portion of ‘Kaaval Kaadhal’ has been shot. I am happy about the shaping up of the movie,” she said.
The actress, who is making a reentry into south Indian cinema with this 51st film of Vijay, added: “Siddique is a highly respected director and Vijay is a top hero. Working with them is no doubt a delight.”

Suhasini to direct Ash?

Both Kollywood and Bollywood are agog with a buzz that Suhasini, wife of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam, may direct Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for a film soon, which is going to be a women-centric subject.
If sources are to be believed, Aishwarya shares a very good rapport with Suhasini right from ‘Iruvar’ days (the former Miss World’s first feature film which was directed by none other than Mani).
“It was in fact Suhasini who helped Aishwarya to get her act right by making her feel comfortable with Tamil dialogues. Their bond reached the next level when they started working for ‘Raavanan’, for which Suhasini is the dialogue writer,” sources say.
They add: “Now that Suhasini, who earlier directed Arvindsamy-Anu Haasan starrer ‘Indira’, is planning to wield the megaphone again, she wanted Ash to be part of the project for which the beauty queen too expressed her consent.”

Simbhu Chants Vedam

Vedam – Tollywood’s groundbreaking blockbuster

The event saw an impressive turn out of VVIPs from the State and Central Ministries and celebrities from the K town. CM Karunanidhi chaired the event and released the first audio to Suriya and Vijay.
Interestingly, Suriya and Vijay shared the dais with the CM thus unwittingly replacing the age old custom of the two kingpins of Tamil cinema Rajinikanth and Kamalhassan sharing the podium with him in film events. The kingpins both were not present at the event.
Suriya, who addressed the gathering, mentioned that he sees potential in Arulnidhi. “After seeing the songs and the trailer, I’m assured that Arulnidhi has what it takes to be a hero,” he said. Suriya also praised the CM on his abilities at his ripe age to pen screenplays.
Vijay’s address was peppered with his admiration for the CM. “We are proud to be born in your times. I’m always amazed at your prolific writing career,” he stated.
Referring to Suriya and Vijay, the CM expressed his wish that Arulnidhi would earn laurels like both the actors. “I was apprehensive about the title at first thinking that it might mislead people. They might think it refers to our family. However, director Pandiraj convinced that this title is required for the movie and he went ahead with that. Now I think the movie should prove itself,” he mentioned.
Pandiraj recollected his post-Pasanga days and revealed that he was pretty much jobless then. “It’s just that my social stature has changed after the release of Pasanga. That is when I met Udayanidhi and he got me introduced to Arulnidhi. I thought Arulnidhi would not fit for the role I had in mind but he proved otherwise. He wanted to do the film and the result of his hard work is for all to see,” Pandiraj said. He added that the movie will be adored by everyone like Pasanga.
The audio launch was attended by Music director Taj Noor, Arul Nidhi, Sunaina, Lyricist Vaali, Sasi Kumar, Producer's Council president Rama Narayanan.
Two songs and the movie’s trailer were screened at the event. The songs scored by Taj Noor are praiseworthy. The trailer is sure to rouse curiosity among movie buffs and the songs were neatly picturized as well.

It was then rumoured that Bharatiraja would direct them in a film and Ilayaraja would compose music for it. That also did not materialize. The latest rumour has it that Sivaji Films will bring the 2 superstars together in their production.
But there has been no confirmation of this from Sivaji Films.

Prakash Raj roars at ‘Singam’ producer

‘Singam’ has become the super hit of the season and one of its important star is irked. Prakash Raj who played the matching villain to the super hero Suriya is upset with Gnanavel Raja, the producer.
The reason for the tension is that producer Gnanavel Raja hasn’t used Prakash Raj’s voice for the Telugu version. ‘Singam’ has been dubbed as ‘Yamudu’ in Telugu and is releasing on July 2. The producer has used a dubbing artist to dub for Prakash Raj.
Prakash Raj is taking it seriously as he has a large fan following Andhra as well. He has gone to the extent of filing a complaint against Gnanavel Raja with Telugu Movie Artistes Association saying that the producer has failed to stand by the agreement signed between them.
Prakash Raj says the producer has given him an undertaking that if ‘Singam’ is dubbed in Telugu he would use only Prakash Raj’s voice.

Ads attract Sneha

"Advertisements are very creative stuff and I am enjoying doing them. It takes a lot to win over people in less than a minute," says Sneha, who is the brand ambassador for some top consumer products.
The actress is impressed with the creativity shown by ad-film directors but was quick to say 'no' when asked if she would consider directing commercials at any point of time.
Saying that advertisements fascinated her, she says that acting in commercials is challenging as it meant having to convince the consumers about the quality of the particular product in 30 seconds or so.
Shifting the focus to Tamil films, her forte, Sneha says: "I want to don varied roles and don't want to be typecast. Importantly, I am looking for good characters." The actress is looking forward the release of films like 'Bhavani'. 'Vidiyal' and 'Vande Matharam'.

Naan Mahaan Alla Preview

Naan Mahaan Alla - Will be stylish as well as realistic

Karthi is one of the hottest stars of this year with three consecutive hit films. This year he had the first super hit ‘Paiyaa’ publicising his ability. ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is his fourth film. The title has reused taken an old Rajinikanth film released in 1984. That had Rajini and Radha and this new film has Karthi and Kajal Agarwal. The similarities end there. The story of Karthi’s ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ has no resemblance to the super star film. While that was a story of lawyer who becomes the nemesis of the villains, the new film is all about a wishful romantic.
‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ directed by Suseendran of ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’ fame. This is a different film for the director as his first film was set in a village backdrop and ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is a city-centric flick. This film is produced by K.E Gnanavel Rajan of Studio Green Films in collaboration with S.R. Prakash Babu and S.R. Prabhu. Studio Green is the banner which gave riveting films like ‘Sillunu Oru Kadhal’ and ‘Paruthi Veeran’.
The heart of the film is about the bonding of a serious father and a romantic son, laced with the criminal backdrops of Chennai. Karthi plays the role of Jeeva, a typical middle-class Chennai youngster with a devil-may-care attitude, who is drawn into the world of crime and criminals after a particular incident changes his life. Jayaprakash after his superb performances in ‘Pasanga’ and ‘Naadodigal’, plays the role of Karthi’s father.
The hottie in Telugu after the blockbuster ‘Magadheera’, Kajal Agarwal is the heroine of the film. In Tamil, she was last seen in Saran’s ‘Modhi Vilayadu’. Her character in ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is cute and bubbly, something on the lines of what Asin played in ‘Ghajini’, says the director.
This film will be an extension of Karthi’s image in ‘Paiyaa’. According to the director Suseendran Karthi’s role in this film is almost the same as senior Karthik’s role in Mani Ratnam's ‘Mouna Raagam’. This film will showcase another romantic side of Karthi ala Paiyaa, sources say.
A combination that made ‘Paiyaa’ a success, music director Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematographer Mathi are back together in this film. Songwriters are Na. Muthukumar, Yugabharathy and Francis while Bhaskar Sakthi has penned dialogues. Rajeevan is in charge of the art department.
Director Suseendran assures that ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ contains 100% entertainment factors with the right mix of comedy, romance, action and sentiments. Karthi had said,” When director Suseendran was narrating the first half of the story I was laughing. I asked him whether I would be suitable for the role of an ordinary middle income youth. He said I will fit the role. For the first time I rehearsed for this film. I rehearsed for one week.”
Now that the film is taken over by Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine Movies, it will leave no stone unturned to reach the masses in every nook and corner.
‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ will be stylish as well as realistic. The film which started in September 2009 has been scheduled for release in August 2010.

Kalavani Goes Topper Over Charts

When the most expected biggies disappoint us, we really keep ourselves away from the medium-and-low budget films. In all likelihood, the previous Friday’s release ‘Kalavani’ has made it through a similar way. The film opened up with lukewarm response with distributors not really jumping with joy over the collections during first weekend. But with film reviews and audiences’ feedback getting on more favorable, the crowds have gradually started thronging more for this film.In most of the theatres, the film was screened for a single show and from Monday onwards, they have been increased due to more crowds. Previously, it had happened with Vikram Kumar’s ‘Yaavarum Nalam’, Sasikumar’s ‘Nadodigal’ and Shankar’s ‘Eeram’. These films never had such intense expectations and got through slow picks at box office.Let’s hope the film makes through a commendable phase, thereby insisting producer Naseer to often make good quality films.

Anushka for Ajith in new film

Hey folks... things are getting clearer on the next film of Ajith. There were enough truth and gossips were written on Ajith's film after the not so good ‘Aasal’. So after Gautham Menon walked out of the project IndiaGlitz first reported that Venkat Prabhu and Ajith had a secret meeting to discuss a film together.
Now the truth is out. Ajith's next film is produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri and directed by Venkat Prabhu. And the film is titled ‘Mangatha’.
And the other truth is Anushka will sing and dance with Ajith replacing Samantha. Samantha was considered for the heroine role when Gautham was to do the film. ‘Mangatha’ is a big leap in the graph of Anushka as she is pairing with the third top hero this year. After ‘Vettaikkaran’ with Vijay and ‘Singam’ with Suriya, ‘Mangatha’ with Ajith is a dream offer for Anushka.
But it does cross our minds here Anushka's comment while speaking at the press meet of ‘Singam’ is Telugu dubbed version 'Yamudu' only a couple of days ago. At the press meet Anushka said “Although I do films in Tamil my first preference undoubtedly is Telugu”. ‘Singam’ was her third film and first hit in Tamil after ‘Rendu’ with Madhavan and ‘Vettaikkaran’ with Vijay.

Court issues order on ‘Kaavalkaran’

A Chennai court has asked the Crime Branch Police to submit a report after probing the allegations made by a petitioner on the remake rights of Vijay’s forthcoming film ‘Kaavalkaran’, directed by popular Malayalam director Siddique.
In his petition, Johny Thomas of West Mambalam in Chennai has said that he had produced the Malayalam film ‘Bodyguard’ a couple of years ago and he was the actual owner of the film’s rights.
“But without my knowledge, director Siddique is remaking the film in Tamil with Vijay playing the lead role. Since he has no legal rights to do so, the Court should order the police to register a case on him,” Johny Thomas said.
When the case came up for hearing, the Eleventh Magistrate of Saidapet Court instructed the Crime Branch Police to conduct detail investigations on the allegations made by Johny Thomas and submit a report to the Court.

Action Against Asin

Nadigar Sangam Secretary Radha Ravi was questioned recently on what action the Sangam would take on Asin, who had traveled to Sri Lanka, to participate in the Hindi film shooting Ready. It is worth mentioning here that the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and several other associations of the Tamil film industry have issued a warning to all the Tamil stars not to visit Sri Lanka for shooting purposes. They also made it clear that the Tamil film industry would not cooperate with their Sri Lankan counterparts.
hen news about Asin flying down to Sri Lanka to take part in the shooting of Salman Khan-starrer Ready started making rounds, there was a lot of opposition. The actress, on the other hand, stated that it was not her preference but she had to go with the crew of the film.
peaking on this issue, Radha Ravi said that the association would meet to discuss the issue.

Priyamani, Bhavana to act together

Yes, the Vikram’s sister in ‘Raavanan’ and Ajith’s love interest in ‘Aasal’ are set to share the screen space, but not in a Tamil movie. Priyamani and Bhavana will work together for a Kannada film, titled ‘Vishnuvaradhan’.
The movie, apparently titled as a tribute to the late Kannada superstar ‘Vishnuvaradhan’, will also have Sudeep and Sonu Sood in pivotal roles, say sources in the know. “It has a different storyline with equal importance to all stars,” they say.
“Priyamani, who is getting ready to leave for the United States, will join ‘Vishnuvaradhan’ team on her coming back to India by the end of July, while Bhavana will start working for the movie from August,” sources add.
Interestingly, this is not the first time for either Bhavana or Priyamani, both from Mollywood, to act in a Sandalwood film. Priyamani has acted in films like ‘Raam’ and ‘Eno Onthara’ while Bhavana starred opposite Puneet Rajkumar in ‘Jackie’.

Thittakudi Movie Review

Starring: Ravi & Asvatha
Direction: Suntharan
Music: Selva Nambi
Production: Dr.R.Siva Kogul Raj
At one side, we have movies that take Tamil cinema to the next league with world class potential and at the other, there are such movies that even describing them would make one cringe. Director Suntharan’s Thittakudi is one of those B graders simply made to add credit points to the director’s profile and to make the producer Siva Kogul Raj’s finances dwindle.
Set in the Thittakudi town, the movie follows the life of a waywardly young man (played by Ravi) who decides to take life in his hands in the absence of proper guidance. He makes merry, sleeps with every single willing woman, drinks and gambles and falls in love - or pretends to. And the poor girl (Asvatha) who falls for him loses her virginity, after which she is abandoned by him.
The villagers’ attempt to bring the two together fails miserably and the girl gets married to another hopeless bloke. Now Ravi becomes destitute and seeks penance for having deserted the love of his life.
It’s not only that the director has included many obnoxious scenes in the movie; in the name of twists he has packed it with malicious content.Although there was no justification for those scenes, the fact that he used such scenes makes a huge difference to the movie’s social standing.
You don’t tend to remember any of the performances by the end of the movie, no matter how emotionally dramatic the scenes were. Mainlybecause Thittakudi has no heart in its right place and comes across as rather hollow.
Director Suntharan probably wanted to give some sort of social message with his movie but the way he scripted the screenplay, the movie sounds more like a wannabe sensationalist. If loose morals that make people lose their minds and do pretty awful things do not count for sensationalism, what else will?
