Mysskin the actor could win awards

The audio release function of director Mysskin’s Nandhalala was held yesterday (Jan 14th) at the Four Frames theater in Chennai. Mysskin makes his acting debut in this movie. The function itself was a very simple one, underlining the way the film has been made. However, the presence of many big names from Kollywood made the event special. The guests
were Ameer, Gautham, Bhagyaraj, Pandiarajan, Rathnavelu, Nirav Shah, Arya, Karunamoorthy and Arun Pandian on behalf of Ayngaran films and art director Tratski Marudhu. The notable absence was that of Illayaraja who has scored the music for the film.
Speaking at the function, Ameer said that there was a time when Kamal Haasan was considered as the only actor who could be depended upon to pull off roles that were out of the ordinary. Vikram was the first actor to break that jinx and prove his abilities, he was followed by Suriya and now Arya has joined that list after his work for Naan Kadavul. He said that if actors were willing to experiment with roles then it would give directors a lot of creative freedom to make different films. Gautham Menon said that he was a fan of Mysskin’s style of film making. He had watched Anjathey along with Suriya and both of them had discussed the film for a long time. He expected as good a film, if not more, in Nandhalala.
Bhagyaraj said that Mysskin should be very lucky to have associated with a legend like Illayaraja. He also noted that in the posters of the film, Illayaraja’s name figured prominently above that of Mysskin. It is very rare for a director’s name to be second to that of a technician. He recalled his days when for a film he had placed M.N. Nambiar’s name above his own. He said that this was the only way in which directors could pay their tributes to legends.
Mysskin said that he had approached many actors to do the film but nothing had worked out and he decided to take it upon himself. He stated that Illayaraja had composed 6 songs for the movie but he could include only two of them in the final cut. When Illayaraja asked him about this, he showed the entire movie to the maestro who agreed that he had done the right thing by including just 2 songs. He added, contrary to popular belief Illayaraja was not short tempered; in fact he is very approachable.
The trailer of the movie was screened at the function. It evoked a lot of curiosity amongst all present. The movie shows a lot about the life of gypsies. Also, glimpses of brilliance could be seen in Mysskin’s performance who seems to have put his heart and soul into the role. The movie could certainly be a candidate for many awards in 2009.
