Veteran artist Nirmalamma has played in myriad number of films in the role of mother and grandmother for which she was adored by the audience. The granny, who danced to the tunes in 'Thalapathi' with Rajini, is none other than Nirmalamma and she also enacted in K.Viswanath's 'Pasavalai', a dubbed version of a Telugu film with Kamal Haasan. With Bhagyaraj, she did the role of a grand mom in 'Oru Voorlu Oru Rajakumari' and was in the cast of the popular hit 'Sankarabharanam'. She did roles in many other films in Tamil with prominent artists in the past. She has shared screen space with superstars of Telugu cinema NT Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao in the past. In her film career that spanned over five decades, she has enacted in more than 1000 films. Andhra Pradesh awarded her the prestigious Nandi Award for her best performance in films and her contribution to cinema. The venerable character artist breathed her last on 19th February at her residence in Hyderabad. She passed away at the age of 89 survived by her adopted daughter Kavitha and her son-in-law Prasad. Eminent personalities of Telugu cinema paid their homage to the actress including Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Murali Mohan, Telugu Desam Party leader Chandrababu Naidu and Chiranjeevi.
