Vettaikaran is the film which has Vijay and Anushka in the lead. Anushka became very popular among Tamil audience after the release of the dubbed version of Telugu film Arundhathi.After this she was signed for Vettaikaran. Babu Sivan is directing this film. He had worked as an assistant to Dharani in the films Ghilli, Dhil and Dhool. Vettaikaran was planned to be released for Deepavali.
The shooting of the film was progressing in rapid pace. But due to some unavoidable circumstances the film could not be completed as per schedule. Because of this the film cannot be released as decided.
A song sequence featuring Vijay and Anushka was supposed to be shot in Australia. But unfortunately the visa was denied to the crew. Now the shooting venue has been changed to Pune.Now the song sequence is being shot in Pune. Vijay Anthony is composing the music for this film while Gopinath is handling the camera. Vijay is donning the role of an auto driver who works for the welfare of poor innocent people
