Ajith, the new philosopher!

Actor Ajith was interviewed for a Weekly Magazine; he said “I have learned many things over my experiences from my career. From the age groups of 20-40, everyone believes that we are the cause for great success and would be bit arrogant in our approach.
From 40-60 we start believing that it was God who fetched as success and not our self. Success and failures have turned to be so gentle for me. When I am hit by failure, I feel that the scenario would change and I put my hard efforts to fetch it. When success comes, I would think this isn’t something permanent and would look forward in churning out more best performance in me”.

Well, we all can take this for our lives!

Why did Meera Jasmine got eliminated?

It is know that actress Meera Jasmine got eliminated for director Shankar movie Andhapurathu Veedu. Actress Chaya Singh has replaced Meera Jasmine, but why was Meera Jasmine eliminated in the first place?
Well, Meera Jasmine has a habit of coming late to the set but the directors never worry too much about that. The real reason was that Naga asked her to rehears two to three times before shooting, which will reduce the film reel wastage.
Meera Jasmine did not want to do that because her performance would get monitored. They both went into argument and as a result Meera Jasmine got eliminated.

Actress Shriya walked out of Marmayogi Mov

The new Kollywood bravest girl has to be Shriya! The buzz that is going around is that Shriya has walked out of the movie Marmayogi because the shooting got postponed.
The producers of the movie are concerned about the budget and so the movie shoot which was going to start in Hyderabad has now been postponed.
If this is true it is not her first time for her to walk out of a movie; she did it before with actor Dhanush’s movie. Apparently she gave her call sheet to a Hindi movie even without asking how long it would take.

KAMAL PAST,PRESENT AND FUTURE

The great Kamal Haasan journey completes another year. As we celebrate the legend who has constructed many a monument in cinema, we retrace his footsteps in seven phases. From the child, to the aspiring actor, the star, the genius, the Legend, the man who made Dasavatharam and what is still to come. Let us relive Universal Star.
Nearly 50 years after he first came on screen, the hunger and passion don’t seem to have diminished one bit. He still wants to go higher and get better. Marmayogi awaits all those who are overawed by the monument of achievements that this man has created and then there is every Kamal fan’s perpetual dream, Marudhanayagam. May the dream come true.

2008 - 2000
Dasavatharam (2008), Vettayadu Vilayadu (2006) Mumbai Express (2005) Virumandi (2004) Vasoolraja M.B.B.S (2004) Anbe Sivam (2003) Nala Damayanthi (2003) Pammal K. Sambandam (2002) Panchatanthiram (2002) Aalavandhan (2001) Paarthale Paravasam (2001)Thenali (2000) Hey Ram (2000)
The 8 years of the 21st century have had some very special moments. Yes there have been the debacles, but who cares when you have movies like Anbe Sivam, Virumandi, Vettayadu Vilaiyadu and a piece of cinema history in Dasavatharam. We all thought that we had seen the best of Kamal, but he has surprised us once again and sent a message across that he has a lot more to offer. He may have cut down on the number of movies but his pursuit of excellence just got more intense.
1999 - 1990
Chachi 420 (1998) Avvai Shanmugi (1996) Indian (1996) Kuruthipunal (1996) Nammavar (1995) Sathi Leelavathi (1995) Subha Sankalpam (1995) Duet (1994) Ladies Only (1994) Magalir Mattum (1994) Kalaignan (1993)Mahanadi (1993) Maharasan (1993) Guna (1992) Singaaravelan (1992) Thevar Magan (1992) Michael Madana Kamarajan (1991)
The 90s, and Kamal started to get really selective, not that he was not selective before. Movies like Michael Madan Kamarajan, Mahandai, Guna and Thevar Magan made his intentions very clear, he wanted to explore new terrain. But there was the occasional potboiler or rib tickler like Indian and Sathi Leelavathi and we thoroughly enjoyed them. And how can we forget Avvai Shanmugi or the grim cops’ tale Kuruthippunal. Infinite variety.
1989 - 1985
Apoorva Sahodarargal (1989) Chanakyan (1989) Daisy (1988) Pesum Padam (1988) Soora Samhaaram (1988) Unnal Mudiyum Thambi (1988) Kaadhal Parisu (1987) Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupaadu (1987) Nayakan (1987) Per Sollum Pillai (1987) Vetri Vizha (1987) Vrutham (1987) December Pookkal (1986) Naanum Oru Thozhilaali (1986) Punnagai Mannan (1986) Vikram (1986) Andha Oru Nimidam (1985) Geraftaar (1985)Kaakki Sattai (1985) Mangamma Sabatham (1985) Oka Radha Iddaru Krishnulu (1985) Saagar (1985) Swathi Muthyam (1985)
The second half of the prolific 80s. This was when Kamal really grew into his full stature. Yes, most of the movies were commercial hero-driven entertainers and Kamal was the pin-up boy of Tamil cinema. But there were the unique and fantastic movies that only Kamal could have done, starting with the incomparable Nayagan, the still unparalleled Pesum Padam and the magnificent Apoorva Sahodarargal. Kamal had arrived at the national stage.
1984 - 1980
Ek Nai Paheli (1984) Enakkul Oruvan (1984) Jappanil Kalyanaraman (1984) Oru Kaidhiyin Diary (1984) Raaj Tilak (1984) Yaadgaar (1984) Yeh Desh (1984) Moondram Pirai (1983) Poikkal Kuthirai (1983) Sadma (1983) Sagara Sangamam (1983) Thoongathey Tambi Thoongathey (1983) Zara Si Zindagi (1983) Salangai Oli (1983) Afsana Do Dilon Ka (1982) Agni Sakshi (1982) Dil Ka Sathi Dil (1982) Pyara Tarana (1982) Raniththeni (1982) Sakala Kala Vallavan (1982) Sanam Teri Kasam (1982) Simla Special (1982) Vazhve Mayam (1982) Yeh To Kamaal Ho Gaya (1982) Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981)Aakali Rajyam (1981) Do Dil Diwane (1981) Ellaam Inbamayam (1981) Kadal Meengal (1981) Meendum Kokila (1981) Raaja Paarvai (1981)Rama Lakshman (1981) Savaal (1981) Shankarlal (1981) Tik Tik Tik (1981) Guru (1980) Maria My Darling (1980) Natchatiram (1980) Ullasa Paravaigal (1980) Varumayin Niram Sigappu (1980)
Kamal the young actor had become Kamal the star and movies were flowing thick and fast. In the most busy phase of his career Kamal churned out box office hit one after another but still managed to be part of some ‘one of its kind movies’ like Ek Duje Ke Liye, Moondram Pirai and Vaazhve Mayam. The Bollywood offers were coming like never before. The making of the legend had begun. 1979 - 1976
Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum (1979)Azhiyatha Kolangal (1979) Idi Kathakaadu (1979) Kalyanaraman (1979) Neela Malargal (1979) Neeya (1979) Ninaithale Inikkum (1979) Sigappukkal Mookuthi (1979) Thai Illamal Naan Illai (1979) Yerra Gulabi (1979) Aval Appadithaan (1978)Chattam En Kaiyil (1978) Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu (1978) Madanolsavam (1978)Maro Charithra (1978) Nizhal Nijamakirathu (1978) Sigappu Rojakkal (1978) Thappitha Thala (1978) Aadu Puli Atham (1977) Aaina (1977) Avargal (1977) Meethi Meethi Baatein (1977) Pathinaru Vayathinile (1977) Uyarnthavargal (1977) Anthuleni Katha (1976) Idaya Malar (1976) Lalitha (1976) Manmatha Leelai (1976) Moondru Mudichu (1976)
Kamal’s first shots at stardom were during this phase. He was already a familiar face in Tamil cinema but not yet a star in his own right. He did become one and in style. Action, romance, comedy, sentiment and some daringly different roles like the womanizer of Manmadha Leelai or Chappani of 16 Vayathinile, the audience always got more than what it imagined and Kamal was the next big thing in Tamil cinema. The era also marks the golden period of Kamal-Rajni multistarrers.
1975 - 1960
Antharangam (1975) Apoorva Raagangal (1975) Melnattu Marumagal (1975) Pattikatu Raja (1975) Gumastavin Magal (1974) Kanyakumari (1974) Naan Avanillai (1974) Arrangetram (1973) Sollathan Ninaikiren (1973) Kanna Nalama (1972) Ananda Jyoti (1963) Parthal Pasi Theerum (1962) Kalathur Kannamma (1960)
The first tentative steps of the legend that was to be. Starting out as the child artiste in Kalathur Kannamma with a National Award, Kamal always showed signs of being destined for great things ahead and the man to spot it first was none other that the great K. Balachander. Apoorva Ragangal is a movie that is integral to Tamil cinema’s history as it marked the beginning of the journey of another contemporary great.

Kamal Haasan – A boon for cinema

On a rainy evening, a theatrical performance was staged and among the crowd a couple was watching it intently.
"I think he might be listening this which will contribute and incline his interests to art. I wish him to be a star which was my dream," says the husband to his pregnant wife.
It might surprise you all as why a scene is being narrated without the star's presence. He was present; in his mother's womb. Hard to believe yet true for Kamal Haasan's first stint in art started as early as even before his birth. His father Srinivasan was a man who aspired to become an actor wanted his child to attain stardom. It was why he toured different strata of art along with his wife in a belief that the child, a boy or girl about to be born will be inculcated with ingenuity.
Despite his father's demise, it was Kamal's mother Rajalakshmi who kept his disinterest in studies aside and gave absolute freedom for his interests. Being in a large family of highly educated people, he sprouted without education but with phenomenal skills.
The title Universal Star depicts the actor's caricature promptly. He holds the potency to make audience feel the emotions related on screen. Be it the cherub like portrayal of an orphaned boy in 'Kalathur Kannama', elided lover of the retarded girl in 'Moondram Pirai' or the manikin Appu of 'Apoorva Sagotharargal'; his grief on screen directly associates with the spectators.
It is not just sympathy that he is capable of but also humor that stands tall in plethora of movies including, 'Michael Madhana Kamarajan', 'Sathi Leelavathi', 'Avvai Shanmugi', 'Thenali'. 'Hey Ram' and 'Anbe Sivam' are milestones in his path. The list goes on endless as he left no stones unturned in his career as the lauded actor of Tamil cinema.
Language has never been a constraint for the actor as he made it big in Telugu with his 'Marocharitra' by K Balachander and its remake in Hindi as 'Ek Tuje Keliye'. Again the list is at length as he has performed in quite a few hits in both Telugu and Hindi. National award for the Best Actor was bagged by him four times for his stellar performances.
Hollywood-ish quality is what Kamal Haasan yearns for as he tried out innovative and experimental demeanors in his movies that reached a pinnacle with his latest 'Dasavatharam'. It can be unanimously termed that he is the definition of dedication.
Never he rests and is still on his path to the crest of cinema.
Although the thespian has refrained people from celebrating his birthday, it is hard not to recall his colossal history in celluloid on this day.

Karunaas-Katradhu Tamizh P.S-People like Prakashraj (Iruvar/Kannathil Muthamittal), Prabhu (Chandramukhi), Goundamani (Gentleman), Sarathbabu (Mullum malarum/Netrikann) etc. were ruled out of the list to make sure that predominant supporting role actors alone feature in the list.
If I had to pick ten out of these twenty extraordinary performers who weren't the protagonist or the antagonist of the movie, I would chose the following ten. These characters have established themselves as signature roles and have performed roles of the 'supporting character' cadre. These roles have been the cause of turning points, have given the hero a backup or a hurdle as the movie gets cooled down or heated up. They are inevitable. This post is dedicated to Late.Shri Poornam Vishwanathan, a veteran supporting actor who has donned superb roles to perfection in Varumayin Niram Sivappu, Ninaithaale Inikkum, Mahanadhi, Aasai and many other movies.
10. Karan-Kathal KottaiLast in the list but not least, Karan is a oft-quoted sidekick. Each of his role in Kannedhire thonrinal, Love Today and Kadhal Mannan are unique and are treated with ease and elegance by Karan. The handsome unemployed in Kadhal Kottai speaks of youthful philosophies in this movie, which are interesting only because he played it.
9. V.K.Ramasaamy-Arangetra VelaiThe old house owner who runs a drama troupe gets into trouble when Tom and Jerry rent his house. Several non-scripted plays get staged in his theatre and VKR makes a joke out of even a wrong number to his office. Such a witty, restless and immensely talented actor plays an astounding role such as in Aanpaavam,Velaikkaran and Bharatha Vilas.
8. Major Sundhararajan-EthirneechalThe man who acted Major when he was a minor! A KB product with signs of a legend in every role. As the mentor and guardian of Madhu in Ethirneechal he plays an inspirational dad of great virues. He has also played major roles in many KB movies apart from Iruvar, Andha Oru Nimidam and Billa.
7. Sriman-Sethu'Cheeyan'-The word became so popular, thanks to Sriman. His natural act in Sethu deserved an award. As a friend and guide, he displays various emotions when he assists Vikram - in love, during local disputes and the final tragedy. One of the finest actors of the current scene, Sriman has also had good characters in Panchathanthiram, Nala Dhamayanthi, Dheena and Friends.
6. Thengai Seenivaasan-Thillu MulluThe very name makes you laugh, doesn’t it? "Suppi-yaathu Kappi-yavathu...get out I say!" can only be bowled in style by none other than our Thengai Seenivaasan. His funny nuances and facial expressions will always be in our memories. He plays the manger who is fooled over and over by Rajnikanth only to make us laugh till we cry. By the way, he has delivered good performances in several other movies like Billa, Kazhugu,Tik tik tik and so on.
5. Saravanan-ParuthiveeranSevvazhai is one hell of a character. A guy who was a mere dupe to an actor coming all the way back to prove himself shows the world that he was not a mere puppet. With a funny moustache all over his face reducing Kanja Karuppu as a comedian and playing Sithappu to a veeran, looked great only because of Saravanan.
4. Baalaiya-Kadhalikka NeramillaiThe way he says 'Asokaru' is enough. He is an estate owner who's rich and is a dad of two beautiful lasses. The scene where Nagesh narrates a story to Baalaiya is a classic performance by two legends. His peculiar dialogue delivery make him a mimicry artiste's favourite. Humour sense clubbed with tremendous output of skill in drama makes Baalaiya, who has given valuable performances in Thiruvilayaadal and Thillana Mohanambal, one of the best ever sideroles.
3. Manivannan-AmaidhippadaiManivannan is how he is called in the movie. His trademark laugh, nakkal and Coimbatore dialect gives enough room for Manivannan to play it to perfection. He is a politician who becomes a ladder to grooming politician Sathyaraj and in the process gets kicked. A subtle villainy, dark humour and the natural koyambuthoor kusumbu makes Manivannan's act a well deserved #3 position.
2. Chaaruhaasan-UthiripookalJust his eyes speak. He never uttered a strong or a loud syllable. Profound and clear, playing a father-in law of a rugged villain, Chaaruhaasan gives a textbook performance of acting. A performance of a lifetime.
1. Janagaraj-NayaganA benchmark for sidekick roles. Sethu was the perfect right hand of Velu Naicker, and anyone will remember good old Janagaraj for his grin, flawless dialogue delivery and a vein of violence. He has given valuable performances as a comedian in many movies but Nayagan will stay as a zenith for such a stellar performance.

Megastar turns to stage plays

Other than movies, megastar Mammooty's interests seem to lie elsewhere. The star was recently seen donning the greasepaint for a stage play. He played the legendary characters Bhima, Arjun, Karna and Yudhistir! While playing a single character on stage could prove to be difficult, Mamooty's quadruple action is a great feat. The stage play was
an adaptation of MT Vasudevan Nair's famous play Randam Oozham, which is based on the epic Mahabaratha. According to the megastar, he wanted to play Bhima's role for a long time and the opportunity was too hard to resist.
However, this is not the first time a Malayalam star plays a role in a stage drama. Earlier this year, Mohanlal also starred in a stage play donning dual roles.

Case have been filed against Nayathara for show to much skin

Nayantara who revealed her skin more in the movie Aegan was shocked when she received a court notice for it.

A Kerala advocate has filed a case against Nayantara and the producer of this movie. He felt it was “unreasonably obscene” and the censor board failed to notice this issue.
Nayanthara plays a teacher and she wears a sari with a mine blouse. She was practically shown as a glam doll.
A Chennai advocate filed an obscenity case in police station and he demanded a ban on the movie for allowing children to watch it in the theatre. He also wanted the censor board to take action immediately.
We are still waiting more details from the reporters.

'Remix is not bad' - Yuvan

Remix of yesteryear hit film songs is the new trend in Tamil cinema. Almost all the films have one popular number of the yesteryear in a remixed version.
Though a section of fans have upped their ante against the trend, a few music composers feel that there is no wrong in rendering remix numbers.
Check out what Yuvan says on the latest trend in Kollywood. 'I do remix only when everyone feels it is necessary for a film. I obtain 'no objection' certificate from the concerned music director, even if it is my father. When the song is liked by the masses, I feel there is no wrong in doing it'.
'I don't think we are doing a bad job of recreating the song. The instruments are abundant in modern times and that doesn't mean it is spoiling the feel. Songs of those golden days are being catered in a platter to the people of today. Remix is not a bad take on the classics,' concludes the songster.
It may be recalled that a couple of days ago, veteran playback singer T M Soundararajan had expressed his displeasure at young music composers coming out with a plethora of remix songs.

'Aindham Padai' comes Nov 28

Sundar C starrer 'Aindham Padai' is confirmed for a release on 28th November. Directed by his former associate Badri, the movie which is packed with action has shaped up well.
The highlight of the movie is an emotional warfare between two leading ladies in a family at Thirunelveli - played by Simran and Devyani. Sundar C pitches in to bring the conflict to an end. This is the crux of Aindham Padai, says the director Badri.
Badri continues, 'Sundar C might have started off his film career by shouting 'action' but he has begun delivering 'action' of late. The man, who stood behind the lenses for various blockbusters, now faces the camera with more guts and determination'.
Almost the entire shoot has been completed. Few of the songs that were shot in Bangkok have come really good. Nasser's performance is worth a mention, he adds.

Kiran in Bollywood

Actress Kiran is a happy woman now. The reason is not one but five. She is already acting in four films in Tamil after her comeback into the industry. Now the fifth news that delights her is she co-stars with sexy hunk Salman Khan in a Hindi movie.
Says Kiran, 'I am comfortable working in Hindi for I know the language better. But Kollywood impresses me for its discipline'.
She adds, 'In Hindi, it's very risky. If one film flops, then you are not to be seen there at all. Hence I am cautious in choosing my films'.
Kiran was on the top of filmdom on her first itself being 'Gemini' with Vikram. Now she is back to acting in 'Rajathi Raja' with Ragava Larencce, Vinayan's 'Nalai Namathe', Ravikumar's 'Jaggubhai' and Sundar C starrer 'Vaada'.

Has Ajith opted for Sura?

Film directors and actors take great pains in naming their films these days. It has to be short and catchy. Ajith is nearing half a century of movies after his 'Aegan' is now gearing up for his next. A stylish portrayal in 'Aegan' and now is his 'Sura'.
A near miss has always prevailed between Ajith and Gautam for they couldn't work together until now. The 49th film of Ajith is all set to be directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon. Gautam had earlier planned to name the film Surangani. However, the title had already been registered by one Suresh, who had directed a film titled Velai.
Following this, it is said that Gautam has 'cut-short' the film's title from Surangani. And now it might be titled as 'Sura', says the sources. To be produced by Sivaji Productions, the movie will be an action-thriller, as said by the close circles to the director. The director is currently expecting the release of his 'Varanam Aayiram' starring Suriya on the 14th of November.

The first for them was 'Thullavadho Ilamai' that sent a blaze across the youngsters. Later, they came back again with a quality movie 'Kadhal Kondaen' that showed the restrained feelings of an orphan. One more time a young lad who turns into a don was 'Pudupettai'. The duo's show was well applauded for portraying the best of emotions and now they are back once again.

Their next is 'Idhu Malai Nerathu Mayakkam' featuring Andrea opposite Dhanush. The film went on to the floors from Friday.
To be produced by Dr Vimala Geetha, Dhanush's sister on RK Productions, the movie has musical score by GV Prakash. The team has been altered, sans Yuvan and the reason behind remains untold.
According to sources, it would be a typical Selvaraghavan film touching more about human emotions. Meanwhile, rumors are abuzz that Dhanush's wife Aishwarya, who is learning the nuances of direction from her brother-in-law Selvaraghavan, would soon direct a film with her husband in the lead.
'Aishwarya is very much interested in filmmaking. She is now a sincere student of Selva and doing her best on the sets of Ayirathil Oruvan. It's my wish to act in a film to be directed by my wife,' said Dhanush in a recent meet.

Why Indians can’t win Oscars?

Over the generations, we have be yearning out to watch any of our versatile personalities bagging international awards. And again, it’s precisely a disappointment with none of them at least getting nominated for the category. Director Priyadarshan is so elated about winning his film ‘Kanchivaram’ at International Film Festivals. “Why Indians can’t bag Oscars? The reason is so simple. Our filmmakers just copycat their works and present it again to them. So what would be their statements? ‘Ridiculous’ and nothing more to underrate us”. Mr. Priyadarshan can better quote those words for himself too… ‘Children of Heaven’, a heart-binding film critically acclaimed across the world and Priyadarshan is remaking it….
Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par makes for the nomination of best foreign languages in Oscars. ‘Definitely maybe’ as the Hollywood film’s title goes, this may be a special attention for everyone, but glimpse through the film again and again. It lacks the substance of reality. Aamir Khan uttering dialogues about ‘Dyslexia’ is something like the researched works on Wikipedia and his scriptwriter Amol Gupta’s work getting revealed. Nevertheless, there are few scenes that lets our rational abilities getting diminished with emotional factors. Never mind it! How about other films that were nominated by our Indian Oscars Association; A Wednesday, Rock On, Mumbai Meri Jaan…
A Wednesday could it be put as the partial traces of Phone booth…Two fighting individuals at other ends for 100min thriller. Of course, the film was worth watching as it had ridden out commercial elements from it. Rock On, a film that binds everyone together irrespective of ages and centres. It’s about human relationships and values. Mumbai Meri Jaan and we must thank this director about his individualistic style of filmmaking. Different characters and their lives transforming after a horrible incident and it sounds good. But, for few who had watched ‘Ameros Perros’ and ‘Babel’, you’d say ‘please grow up Indians’…
If Aamir Khan had roped in so many characters for showcasing the emotional bonding between relations in ‘Taare Zameen Par’, so what can you say about ‘Children of Heaven’, where the same relational bonding was revealed with just a matter of shoes….
Think about it filmmakers and you’ll have something to rediscover amongst you…

Ajith who maintains genial relationship with the city’s journo recently seems to have put forth a request to them. He has requested them not to publish his daughter’s photographs. Ajith reasoned that he did not want his daughter to be identified as an actor’s daughter, an interesting ideology.

Some time ago, however, an image of Ajith holding his daughter in an event snuck its way to the media.
